Me again, so even though my VIN code has the "S" in the Ninth Position, designating its a Mayfair (LHD), meaning it was built as a LHD, there might be an issue?

Thanks for the information on this, going to have to do a bit more reading on the subject.

Hopefully this will work itself out. BUT, my car is supposed to be coming through Newport News, VA so not West coast..

Rule is 25 years and older.. but MUST be ALL OEM..  not changes from RHD to LHD..  must have all OEM glass and OEM seatbelts..  CBP  US CUSTOMS going out there way to be difficult on imports of classic mini and land rovers. since the 78 land rovers  SEIZED from the owners here in NC in 2013 and then returned in 2015.  thanks  to the help to the Bulldog Attorney Will Hendrick..  fyi.. the west coast ports of entry seem to be much easier than the east coast ones..  for some reason..  you would think all would be exactly the same but each port of entry is like their OWN country.. later bc

Is this rule for any year Mini, as in a 25+ year old one too?

I currently am waiting for my 1990 998 LHD Mini to be brought from Japan. Supposed to be delivered by the end of the month.

I thought that over 25 years old the OEM requirement didn't matter anymore.

S***ting bricks now.... Scott

UPDATE. If you are importing a classic mini or land rover defender  I would NOT use charleston sc ( port code 1601 ) to import .. the Dept of AG also out of control.   if they find spot of dirt.. must be moved to pad off site from port and charge is $1911 plus storage . PER car..  I would use port newark or baltimore  . later  bc

I was getting ready to buy a Mini that has a fixed 2 piece fiberglass front, aftermarket 12x6 wheels, miglia flares.. but otherwise "stock interior, etc". It seems pretty tame to me, but your posting has me slightly... uneasy.

Just heads up..  the classic minis  need to be ALL Original . OEM.. to  now to be imported..in 2017  this started with land rover defenders about 2 years ago and has expanded to classic minis.. also.. do NOT replace all the glass either.. this is NOT allowed.. and if it does NOT have OEM seat belts..  you guessed it  can be held for months under CBPs.. VACIS... intensive manifest hold.... also a problem to import..   with now  with   new SCAC rules.. all  classic parts MUST have DOT marking..  like windsceens.. tail lights..  ect.. If you want to buy something off www.ebay.co.uk or www.carandclassic.co.uk.. I can help with the import of your mini.. BUT I can NOT buy it for you. being Lic NC dealer , I must have on my dealer lot in Earl NC  and title in MY hand to sell any car ( btw. this is law in almost ANY  US state.) but I can get you a AA inspection and picked up  and taken to port of Southampton,  and picked up from ANY port in the USA and NC vin inspection and NC title if shipped to Charleston SC..( I am NOT cheap, either)   Run from the POSSER David Ellison aka Mt Minis in the Uk on ebay.com  later bill cox MBA lic NC Dealer and bonded US CUSTOMS importer with TWIC ACE and SCAC and now WMI for moke.. www.montecarlomini.com   phone  1.704.487.6406 shop and 1.704.487.6797 home  and Aylesbury England..
