the AA is located on the east end of LI. I"m gonna pass on this one. It's a California car. little or no rust. In a car tent and boxed in with years of accumulation.
It's automatic w/ engine out.
Interior is out, headliner is out.
Anyone interested contact me and I'll pass along the details of the owner.
A grand should take it.

I saw your ad. Shipping kills the deal for me.
I'm going to check out an AA Sunday. Twin webers on manifold I'm told. California car.
Yellow under black primer.
Automatic, engine out.
Yeah, don't ask about the carb/ lump combo. Who knows.

Or you can just buy my mg1100 and take the brakes off of it.

yea, I was careful when I linked it as the same seller has other ones also advertised for both cars but is the later, thicker one with the flutes on the center hub. The one that's linked, without the flutes, looks to be the correct one.
The rotor / friction surface is thin like the minis whereas the sliding caliper rotors are very thick.
Seven has some mg1100 ones offered with rotors for some significant coin now. I checked as I thought they were cheaper, but looks like everything has tripled for them. Which makes me wonder more about the stock midget ones and/or mini 8.4 rotors with diameter durned down a smidge.
you might get more specific help here:
//www.forums.ado16.info/cgi-bin/forum/Blah.pl
Create a login and you'll see a whole bunch of suptopics not visible from generic unregistered / unwashed masses.

you're saying that the 1100 and 1300 rotors are different? Your link to the advert has the rotors listed as for either car BTW.

midget calipers are direct bolt on to the hubs. And if you use the mg1100 rotors, they are a precise, perfect fit.

I think I read where someone used regular 8.4"mini rotors and had them turned down to slightly smaller diameter. But I can't swear to that.
Yes, we tried to turn down some America rotors-- it didn't work for multiple reasons-- the flutes on the center of the america disc interfered with the caliper for one, and there was difficulty determining which side to take more material off of.
Easy way to figure out final drive is to put the engine in gear, jack up one front wheel, put it in 4th, and then rotate the motor once and count the wheel revolutions

So Spank , do the midget calipers bolt directly to the hubs on the AA?
and anyone know if there was any stamping on the diff that might indicate the fd ratio?
and.... did you ever try to have the AA rotors turned down to fit the Midget/ Sprite calipers?

I've pulled many-a 3.76 FD out of stock Austin America units, so not all were 4.1. That's what I put back in for LeMons use (3.76) running 185/55-14 tires on honda accord 114.3 steel wheels.
Admittedly, it's a bit tall for track use with only a warm build motor. Used a 3.9 (or maybe it was a 4.0) at The Ridge and we would hit our rev limiter well before the end of the straight, but it was worth floating it there for a couple of seconds to get the better gearing on the rest of the track.

4.13 sounds right for the stick. I thought the automatics had something else, maybe 3.65?

Won't the various Austin/Rover/MG Metro brake parts cross right over to the America drive flange?
As such I expect Metro Turbo Brakes would fit! Woo Hoo, extra rotational mass! Plumbing Brake lines!

These are what I used:

I'd given my Haynes AA book away a few years ago, but found out today that the ADO 16 had a 3.44 and a 3.76 fd.

a 3.44 in an America will be like a 2.95 or 2.76 in a mini.
As for brakes, you can use mg midget 2-piston calipers but you'll need corresponding thickness rotors which are thinner than the sliding caliper rotors that are stock on the America. The MG1100 used this 2-piston setup with thinner rotors and I've been using them on the LeMons "race"America. I have NOT tried to use midget rotors yet--but I suspect they might work.
I think I read somewhere that mgb calipers are rotors are upgrades for the midget to get a bigger rotor diameter. I haven't tried this yet

You can run an assortment of diff's on a 12 inch wheeled Mini usually in the 2.95 to 3.44 range. The difference with the ADO 16's is that they run a much taller tire than the 145 70 or 165 60 tires that are used on Mini's. Not sure but i think later ADO's ran 13's as well.

Sluggish would be the word I'd imagine, the ADO16s have much shorter FDs than Minis due to the bigger wheels & tyres.

Any knowledge of how a mini engine with a 3.44 diff will perform in a 12" Austin America? (Austin 1300/MG 1100 twin).
Also, is there an upgrade on the brake calipers? This car has the stock single piston sliding caliper with the angle cut pads. they don't stop as well as I'd like.
Is there a 2 piston or 4 piston caliper?
Are the 12" tires still available?
Does anyone have a pedal box from a standard car?
The one I'm looking at is an automatic.
