I do not have the rivet type, have heard they are difficult, I think hooking it on under then snapping it over the top of the rivet is correct. It has to do with getting the wide flat part of the trim strip under the rivet first, as it will just flex instead of poping over the rivet otherwise. Have also heard of people using 3M trim tape to good effect. Good luck.

Thank you for that reply onetime. Everything is been together for years but sometimes when I slam the door closed the trim piece comes off at the front of the left hand peace over the top of the window. Rivets have been in the door for years and I don't believe there's any rust issues there my boss who did the paint job showed me that to reattach that Chrome was counterintuitive because instead of hooking it on on the top side you're hooking it on on the bottom side and then pushing it over the top I think that's what he said. But I'm not having any luck with that today.

In my case with a 62 Cooper, the first thing installed is the exterior ss trim around the door opening for the window, mine is early and uses clips in 12, 1/4" holes, seems most use rivets to hold the upper ss trim on. Then the lower outer trim is loaded with 4 to 6 clips, then pushed down onto the upper door edge. next the upper glass seal/track goes in the door upper frame.
Next the fun part, both pieces of glass, and the lower interior ss trim, with its seal/track, is all fed up into the upper seal and pushed out on to the door ledge and screwed into place. there should be mastic or other to prevent water running down between the ss trim and the inside door edge.
If you have new seals, there are holes needed to drain water to the interior door drain tubes. Dry install to verify fit and locations for the screws. If the ss interior lower trim in new reproduction, it will take some fiddling, or a lot to get the window catches to work well, especially with metal catches, and is much simpler to do before installing. Should take 10, 15 minutes tops!

Front left sliding window. The front side of the sliding window is where the trim is.

I seem to remember there was a way to attach the Chrome strip around the window. As I remember it was counterintuitive like you do the in side of the window attached that and then clip it on to the outside of the window I hope so it made sense to that anyway I do I do it from the inside the window first two outside second or vice versa it's the front next to the steering wheel just that that one section
