If your steering rack is worn out this rack is for you! Standard on all MKII & later Minis but can be fitted to MKIs.  This stock rack from Mk II on is 2.7 turns lock to lock.

A worn steering rack can range from uncomfortable to drive to being downright dangerous. While not the easiest thing in the world to replace, it is a situation where compromise should never be an option. As the sporadic supply of this item can either slow or stop your progress in repair or restoration, if you have never replaced your old one, you might want to keep one handy for the day you need it!

If you are replacing the rack on a MKI Mini, you will need the MKII steering arms: BTA896 for right, and BTA897 for left.
Does not include steering tie rod ends. See GSJ100 for standard tie rod ends or GSJ158 for longer tie rod ends for lowered cars.

If you are interested in performance driving then you know reaction time from the driver to the car is critical; the time it takes to turn the steering wheel to the desired angle is important! For the quick ratio MKII rack (2.2 turns lock to lock), see part C-GSR626.
For right hand drive, see GSR626E and C-GSR626.

Classic Mini Suspension, Steering and Handling Data 1959-2000
Created: June 08, 2000
The data on this page relates to all Minis unless specified. Major changes to suspension and steering are limited to the introduction of a new steering rack and steering arms for Mk2-on models. Mk2 steering arms have two `ears' to aid in the use of ball joint splitters; this is how they may be differentiated from Mk1 steering arms.
