The CV joint in any front wheel drive car is critical, it drives the wheels and keeps the bearing together. In a Mini with disc brakes (7.5" or 8.4" rotors) the CV joint takes a real beating. While sound maintenance can make them last a long time, they will wear out. The most obvious way to determine the need is to listen for a clicking sound as you hold the steering wheel at full lock. In addition if you find a broken grease boot on the joint that appears to have been that way for some time- you can bet that the joint is also bad.

These CV Joints come with a 1.25" castle nut, they have 29 splines. Torque to 190 ft. lbs then continue to where the castle nut lines up with the cotter pin hole.

Question:
I've got a 1966 Classic Mini with drum brakes on the front. The car came with some Mini disk brake front uprights and hubs as spare parts. I've noticed that the splines of my existing half shafts do not mate with the new disk brake hubs. What do I need to do to be able to use the disk brake assembly?
Answer:
While I am not sure exactly what you have already I would assume what you would need is the CV joint as used on all disc brake Minis. https://www.minimania.com/part/GCV1013/Classic-Mini-Cv-Joint-1-5-16-Nut-Late-Disc-Brake
Your current axles will mate up to the new CV joint but if you only have the uprights for disc brakes you will need drive flanges, calipers and rotors.
