Question:
I would like to know the specifications on the camshaft supplied with the 1380cc big bore kit. Also, it is necessary to bore the cylinders offset to accept the larger pistons on the two center bores. How much must the pistons be offset from the original centerline? Thank you.
Answer:
Hi Alex,

Here's the camshaft we normally use in most engine builds: https://www.minimania.com/part/CAM103M/A-Series-Second-Generation-Performance-Camshaft-Cam103m-Slot-Drive

Note the camcard on that page giving all of the relevant information.

The no. 2-3 bores are offset to maximize the space in between them but I do not have those numbers handy.

Thanks.

-Brendan

See here for camshaft Specs: https://www.minimania.com/part/CAM103M/A-Series-Second-Generation-Performance-Camshaft-Cam103m-Slot-Drive

Every bore 0.015" outwards from center and 0.010" towards the cam side of the block

Question:
I have a 1098, 1966 Sprite. I want to rebuild for a streetable cam, not too lumpy. What kit And bore is recommended?
Answer:

I'm afraid we can't give much advice here as we don't rebuild the 1098's. The parts available for that engine are a bit limited for cost-effective performance vs. the 1275. That being said, boring the engine and improving flow in the head and adding larger valves will always increase the performance of any engine. The street camshaft most used in our builds is this one:

Question:
So you just have your 1275 block bored over to 1380? That sounds like a big jump
Answer:
Yes, but it's a MUST that the block not be more than +.020 to start with (standard is better) since 1380's are offset bored to leave enough material between the two middle cylinders (2-3).

Good luck

Question:
Are flat top pistons available?
Answer:

No, not currently. The largest flat-top piston we offer are these:

https://www.minimania.com/part/C-AJJ3382-60-EA/Mega-1275-060-Flat-Top-Piston-With-Rings--Pin-each

Not in stock but can be ordered. Would go to 1330cc.

Question:
How's this possible in a moggy 1098 engine?
Answer:
You'd need a 1275 engine to start with. Preferably one that hasn't been bored to more than .020" first. The small-bore engines can't go that large.
