One Of A KInd anyone will ever find in north america as to the detail in mods done to this car in order to run such filter and have a closing Hood. Yet very easy to set things back to the original Hood which I kept.

I have a 7 port 1275 bored out .40 over and running a scatter pattern cam in my engine, modified hood to accept a ITG filter as just the rubber filter that goes on the webbers are not enought to keep the engine protected. As to the 7 port over a standard 1275 head there is crazy power. I took a trip to a show last year and hills with the 7 port head felt like running on flat ground.

I think I will go with the 7 port crossflow head based on what been written up on the bolt on horsepower based on a regular 1275 engine spec. And not to mention the sound of a webber never mind two webbers.

As to the filter a pop on screen filter in order not to modify my hood if fine even if I have to do a rebuild ever five years or so depending.

As to a Calver Head what would the horsepower be between your new choice of head  and that of a 7 port crossflow you think?  I would say a bit less if a 7 port head on a 1275 delivering about 100BHP on a 1275cc engine block..?? Even with a good---- porting, polished and flow test done to that 5 port Calver Head..

I just got to figure out which 7 port crossflow would be a good one , Yours that you had look very nice but that sold! So know way to get a feel as to the gains in power going 7 port crossflow over what a standard 12g940 head spec was giving in pulling power..

Im not sure but I would probably say yes it does burn more fuel. I changed my plans and sold my head to a freind of mine. I decided not to use it because you can't use a standard type air filter under the stock hood. You can only use screens for the air horns and they are not nearly as effective (when it comes to keeping the engine clean) as a K & N filter. I decided to use a Calver head with twin 1.5" Su carbs per my engine builders recommendation.

I bought my head from Pierce manifolds in the USA and then sent it to MED engineering in the UK for porting. MED now sells the head already modified on their site.

The head will fit underneath the stock bonnet without modifications but you will be limited to what type of air filter you can use with the Weber DCOEs.

the Pierce alloy head is very different to the one tested by Vizard,

Originally there was the AKM Iron head, this was cast with 45mm diameter ports at the manifold face this head was really meant for full race engines and needed big cams big valves and high revs to get the best from it, this is the head Vizard tested

AKM sold the rights to minisport who made some changes to the casting to make the ports smaller to make it more applicable to road use, the inlet ports on these heads are 40mm dia at the manifold face.

the Peirce head has some more changes to it and is cast in alluminium, the valves are smaller in these heads at 33mm vs the 35mm of the minisport and AKM heads, also the inlet is shorter, with the manifold face being closer to the head also the plugs in these heads are 8mm dia vs the 10m dia of the previous heads.

the HRE and MED heads as mentioned  are peirce castings with larger valves.

I just received my MED / Peirce 7 port head with the rockers. It is a phase 1 cylinder head for a street car. I will have the engine dyno tested and tuned by the end of the year (hopefully)

There is as always a third way.

The AKM/Mini Sport heads have their problems, porosity being the major one initially (though allegedly now cured), having no choice but to use Webers or throttle bodies and the port sizes are colossal.
The aluminium copies/development of this head also appear to have their limitations, mainly small valves and the same big port size.  (The std valves in the iron head are full 2mm bigger than the largest on offer in the aluminium).

Tucked away in the back of Mini Mag this month, there is an intriguing advert from Specialist Components for a billet 7-port head.  I phoned them on Friday to talk injection and asked after their new head.  4mm smaller ports than the AKM and larger valves as standard...  Will be launched to the public next weekend at the Bingley Hall show.

Metric is for people who can't do fractions...

It would have been one of the original ones not the later versions.

Did he test the Minisport head or the alloy 7 port from minimania and pierce? There is a HUGE difference in the two heads. (valve size, casting quality etc)

David Vizard tested that head in one of MiniWorlds, Keeping Your Mini Alive magazines.

Who is Mr Obunga ? Anyway I want to know if anyone has had any real experience and or opinions of the head in real world use. What kind of cam was used ? What is the power output ? .etc. I did speak with someone @ MED the other day  in the UK and he gave me more than enough info. I will update this thread once I have Bill G. assemble my engine.
