Improving Your Mini Cooper Gas Mileage

by Don Racine
Most engines (and all Minis) use an electric spark to start the burning of the fuel/air mixture which in turn powers the car. If the engine is to run properly this 'electric spark' must happen at the exact right time.

Mini Cooper Verto Clutch Information

This article has been written owing to the increasing amount of people who ring Mini Spares stating that their 1275cc Injection type Mini will not start after fitting a new clutch, especially when they have purchased the parts from another supplier, usually a motor factoring company, rather than a Mini specialist.. There are 2 types of Pressure plates, namely AP (Automotive Products) and Valeo.

Don, excellent question on the parts we've bought and not used or intend to use.  Can we post them for sale or trade?  I see it's touchy as I would sell them cheaper than listed just to move them.  Don't see myself as the "competiton " as I can't offer warranties, etc.

Thanks

I read the Terms and Conditions a few times now, and would like some clarification on the "parts selling that does not compete with MM in any fashion" clause.

I see parts new and used for sale here all the time. What is considered "competing"?

Can one sell a new part that was purchased but decided not to use?

Can one sell used parts that are still obtainable new from MM?

Just a few thoughts I had.

Jeff, I agree with you, I do enjoy talking about things other than Minis because I just really like to get "to know" people as much as possible and you can't always do that with just technical questions. I especially love to see pictures of people and their family or just funny stuff.

and Don, I think that it was a good idea to put your post up about treating people the way you want to be treated, if you have a problem with someone you can always take to email to resolve it off the board in a more personal manner. Although I have never had a problem with anyone here, they have all been very nice and so helpful, so much more than other boards I have been a part of.

I really appreciate this board, it has been a godsend to me, thanks!

Smurf I don't think getting rid of the ot topics is a good idea there are alot of helpfull folks on here. I'm sure there a logsplitter fourm out there some where but if your a member here and have a problem with your log splitter why not just ask because more than likely someone on here can help. I think most of us who own minis have been tinkering with mechanical things most of our life we couldent keep a mini running if we did not have this experince so asking a question about anything should be ok I like checking in to the board every day seeing if I can help anyone or get help. I remember another user in a OT commet saying how this board was like a pub to him a friendly place to check in and see whats going on with everybody. Its the same to me I don't always even care to read about minis thats my main reason to be on here of course but if somebody wants to talk about there new baby daughter or log splitter or whatever thats fine by me. I might suggest a seprate fourm for all OT posts.Or just don't click on a OT posts if you don't care about them. Most of use have a little more going on in our life than a mini and this is a friendly helpfull place we can all come for advice that the mini brought us too.

another thing that really seems to cut down on bozo posters is user name = person's real name.  Moderators ask applicants for proof of identity and then they are allowed to post.  Board users seem to be a bit more circumspect when using their real names, and moderators can quickly get rid of the bozos (no multiple user names).  The next best thing seems to be proof that they belong, for example don't let just anybody on the left-handed Armenian volleyball player's message board; applicant must be a card-carrying member of a left-handed Armenian volleyball team.   Applicant to a Mini/MINI message board could be asked for proof of present or past Mini/MINI ownership, and so on.

"I also want to remind everyone else that objectionable posts and posters should be reported to the moderators. I truly hope that Don will do something like this. If the pot stirers can be stopped dead in there tracks and not allowed to bait others like me and Bluegoose this board will improve. Not that anything is wrong with it as is.

Short of that please make me an ignore user filter - I have a short list ready to go on it.

Ping Webmaster: How is that ignore user filter comming along Sir?

The Atlas F1 site is a good example, where there are multiple message boards.  Each board has a moderator, which I assume is a volunteer, and that person can allow/remove posts.  For the most part, the message posters behave themselves.  But its a big site, and occasionally there are people who abuse the privilege.  Today I saw this warning from the big cheese (equivalent of Don here):

----------------------

"Just to let you know, I have temporarily closed registration of new users for the Atlas F1 Bulletin Board.

After a bit of clean-up, I will restore registration - but will keep a close eye on every new user added.

Furthermore, in the next few days or weeks, I will be banning every user the moderators feel has been a distruptive member of this forum. Veteran members with community ties in other forums will be banned from Racing Comments only; everyone else will be banned from the entire Bulletin Board.

There will be no warning, there will be no notice of the ban, and the ban will be permanent. I don't have time or patience for it.

If you are extremely rude, if you deliberately stir trouble, if you draw multiple complaints - then you're not welcome here. Move on. The internet is big, there's plenty other websites. Find yourself a home elsewhere.

I also want to remind everyone else that objectionable posts and posters should be reported to the moderators. Don't make it worse by calling names, answering back, or trying to determine what threads should be closed, which posts should be deleted, or who should be banned. If you're not a moderator, it's really not your job - and you're only adding more work for us."

This clearly indicates that listing of competitive website is not acceptable!!!!

this quote contradicts this quote:

Mini Mania also provides a message board for private individuals to use as a gathering place to exchange ideas, and information about the cars we all enjoy.

kinda hard to have one with out the other

Bill is correct.  It is difficult to monitor each and every posting and indeed at times a person will send me a list for pre-approval which seems to work best.  A very good idea if you have a long list!

Perhaps the lack of consistency is due to Don and Company's not being able to check regularly on what's posted for sale here??
