OK well it sounds like it was just a dumb question, as Spank was probably thinking but trying to be nice and not tell me since he has been helping me with this.

Course of action, drive mini till I have to tow it home then put the 1100 in with the 202 that I've reconditioned myself.

Thanks for the responses guys.  Much appreciated.

Mercedes Trucks,(as in Semis) run as low as 8psi,hauling 40 ton gross.Keith Calver goes into putting a 1275 head on a 998,in great detail in his Mini Expert magazine.

Due to the Financial Downturn, the Light at the End of the Tunnel must now be switched off.

The 998 in the Elf used to have zero oil pressure on tickover, even when cold. Despite this, when I stripped it the bearings were okay. As long as you have pressure on the move, drive it till it stops.

"Low" is an understatement. Adam, yours is the first mini I've seen that probably needs a vacuum reading for the oil pressure gauge!

Why do you need to pay for a recondition ?

Re-lap the valves, check the head for flatness and whack it on !

The 850 is has really low oil pressure at idle and besides that it's faster to ride a bike.

Nothing is wrong with the 202 I was just hoping to avoid paying to recondition a head that I would not use for all that long.  But if pocketing is the only option then I would probably just not use it then.

Thanks for the advise

To use the 940 on a small bore block you will need to pocket the block to avoid the valves hitting it. Piling up gaskets to avoid this issue will drop the already very low compression rate of an 1100 engine to less than 7:1... not ideal.

What is wrong with the both the 850 and the 202 head ?

First I would just like to say thanks to all those that respond to all the threads. I have learned a bunch reading your responses. Some of you are really smart. I have read a lot but dont post much.

This is my dilema. I have an 850 on its last leg and an 1100 that I am assuming is still good but needs the head redone. I have a 1275 that I am planning on rebuilding but do not have the money as of right now so I was thinking why not refurbish the 12G940 off the 1275 and use that on the 1100 for right now. I dont want to spend the money to redo the 12G202 just to use it for a year if I can use the other and then just swap it to the 1275 when I have it rebuilt. Willl the compression be too high? Could I double up on the head gasket if so? What would you do in my situation. Mind you I am trying to save money where I can since I dont have a ton of it.  Please tell me if this is a dumb question. Thanks
