"What if the mini is running and in neutral?"

If you flat tow an automatic Mini it will trash the tranny.  No if's, and's, or but's!  The only way to do it is either on a trailer, a tow dolly, or pull the driveshafts and replace them with some old cv joints that don't have axles in them.

What if the mini is running and in neutral?  Can't that massive oil pump move enough oil around?

Mike, that would be OK if she was healthy.Unfortunately,Ovarian Cancer Stage 3C, then 2 years later a Malignant Brain tumour doesn't leave you bouncing with energy.Especially after Chemo and radiation.

Best is if she drives it behind you.

Damn! I guess she's just going to have to work on her gear changes. Had a Tow dolly once, didn't like it. Appreciate the input.     jim

Could you just get a tow dolly, and modify it for the correct width of a mini?

"...the vehicle should be towed, with the ignition key turned to position 'I', neutral ('N' selected and the engine oil level at the 'MAX' mark on the dipstick. To avoid damage to the transmission do not tow for long distances or at speeds above 20 m.p.h. (32 km/h)."

If the transmission is bad, tow with the front wheel off the ground.

you would have to pull the driveshafts every time you hithed it up.

Does anyone know how far you can tow an Automatic Mini, all wheels down? Jane, my partner wants me to get an Automatic to use behind our RV as a Tow dinghy. She's not too happy using  her left hand for gear changes, but she feels she could manage an Auto no problem.
