Improving Your Mini Cooper Gas Mileage

by Don Racine
Most engines (and all Minis) use an electric spark to start the burning of the fuel/air mixture which in turn powers the car. If the engine is to run properly this 'electric spark' must happen at the exact right time.

Mini Cooper Verto Clutch Information

This article has been written owing to the increasing amount of people who ring Mini Spares stating that their 1275cc Injection type Mini will not start after fitting a new clutch, especially when they have purchased the parts from another supplier, usually a motor factoring company, rather than a Mini specialist.. There are 2 types of Pressure plates, namely AP (Automotive Products) and Valeo.

Poll Description: I'd best sum up the article "Small is Beautiful" as:
Excellent--entertaining, informative, accurate
Good--not perfect, but a sporting effort
OK--too harsh on BMC/Issigonis
Bad--Don't quit your day job
It sucks--9th Circle of Hell, mate

I seem to recall a story about when they first tested the new car with a 948.  Since it was way too fast, they reduced the size of the engine, but I thought that they also made the car wider as well?

Just to be on the safe side, you may want to make sure that you have permission to use the attached drawing and pictures in your article.

I liked the part about how the 948 was deemed too fast, nice article, easy quick read with facts that can be retained.

I would like to continue the articles through the endop of production in 2000. I may have separate sub-histories for the Clubman and Coopers, but that'll depend on how much time I have (which probably isn't much).

I wrote an article on the development of the Mini at Autosavant (http://www.autosavant.net/). It's located at:

http://www.autosavant.net/2008/08/mini-story-part-one.html

There's some criticism of BMC/Issigonis in the article, which may be too much for the true believer.  Check it out and leave some comments there--let me know exactly how badly I screwed it up.

And take the poll here!
