The Velocity Invitational 2021 At A Glance



Velocity Invitational is an energetic new event from the organizers of the 2019 Sonoma Speed Festival that will reunite the world’s finest racing automobiles November 11-14, 2021 at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. Throughout the weekend guests will have opportunities to experience speed through immersive activities and track action alongside historic and cultural exhibits featuring vehicles from notable museums and private collectors.


WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, located on the scenic Monterey Peninsula of California, will play host to the Velocity Invitational. The 2.238 mile track features 11 turns, including the world famous Corkscrew.


Over 200 elite, historic cars will participate in nine invited race groups spanning the history of motorsports from the Brass Era to the modern age competing on track. Allowing for exhibition of the cars as they were meant to be seen and heard – on the track. Confirmed car entries to date include several Ferrari 250 GTOs and one of the six Shelby Daytona Coupes.


McLaren Racing will be bringing the 1998 MP4/13A chassis number 02, a 760 horsepower V10- powered Formula 1 car driven by David Coulthard and Mika Häkkinen. This is the same car that Häkkinen drove to win the Australian GP and now it will take to the historic curves of Laguna Seca. McLaren will also bring the 2011 MP 4/26A and 2012 MP4/27A Formula 1 cars that were driven by Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button in era, as well as the 1998 MP4/98T two-seat Formula 1 demonstration car, which will take a lucky few passengers on a thrilling ride around the circuit.


Guests will enjoy locally sourced food and beverages, or luxury goods and services throughout the weekend. The Plaza will host vendors selling food and beverage to the general public while the Sip & Savor Pavilion will provide live music and samplings from local vineyards and restaurants for a separate ticket. Additionally, spectators will enjoy curated exhibits featuring historic vehicles from private collectors and prominent museum collections, along with educational text panels or videos that tell the story of these rolling sculptures. -more- 2-2-2

We will again plan to showcase the evolution of technology, education, and of course have the finest lineup of authentic historic race cars in North America.
