The old motorcycle expression comes to mind: Chrome don't get you home. That roof trim will look good for about 1 hour and on a hot day, kiss it goodbye.

I agree with you on the original Rover trim. It was so loose and brittle it broke off of my car while I was trying to adjust it. I'm trying the "chrome" one from MiniMania. Even though it comes with a bunch of marks on it (the spool looked like it was dragged across the floor so it's got an identical mark every few feet) it cleans up fine and looks better than the ugly exposed window gutters. It also snaps in pretty tight. I'll use it until the sun bakes it and it becomes loose again like the factory Rover gutter.

From what i have experienced with the original Rover gutter trim that is what it does best, hold water and debris in the gutter longer than it should therefore making a problem area an even bigger problem. Even without the trim the gutters do not drain as the ugly slots that let the water out are higher than the water level on the later cars, the early cars seemed to drain a lot more water out wit hthe different slots but still were not great by any means.

A few good clips in the right places and it wont go flying off at any speed. I have mine on specifically because I have original paint and the seam around the roof looks like it could become a problem area if too much water and debris get to it.

Hair dryer and patience seem to be the best combination... Give yourself some slack on the corners or else it will crease up.

I have my fingers crossed. I'm putting no pressure on them, but I do miss driving the car. I was fortunate to get a "fix" driving Minimn's 1293 for a day at the start of last month, though.

Adding to Malcolm's comment about the factory trim...

...and it tends to come off at around 110.

Skip the paint heat gun....too hot ( no need to ask )....used a hair dryer second time around...and lots of patience

If you insist on roof gutter molding, good advice already given. My thoughts? Best place for that trim is on the shelf in the garage.

mehinger, there are factory clips for the lower moulding i have also seen the corners pop riveted from the underside (not all the way through). I have not found a good aftermarket gutter trim that fits well and they shrink dramatically in the sun, the factory ones are good but they do hold water and only come in black.

I have also heard a recommendation to put the roll in hot water for a while before installing.

But hijacking the thread a bit, I was wondering about putting the plastic trim on the lower seam over the wheels and along the bottom of the door. It doesn't seem to fit very tight over the seam and I wonder about it falling off. Should a person use some kind of a clip or put some adhesive on  it?

When I installed mine I left the roll in the hot sun for some time to soften it up. I also carefully used a heat gun when doing the corners. Emphasis on carefull. The main thing is to make sure the roll is very warm to begin with.

I want to install chrome roof gutter moulding. Obviously, there MUST be a secret to installing it ESPECIALLY at the corners of the roof where it bends pretty dramatically. Any ideas or tricks you have learned that you would like to pass along??? I am thinking that it needs to be heated up....BUT HOW? And how much?
HELP!
