Check with folks in MINI5280 (the Denver area new MINI group) or MOTR (Minis Of The Rockies - the classic Mini oriented group). They are bound to know of any third party shops that can work on the new MINIs besides the dealer (still Ralph Schaump?)

Can you recomend a resonably priced place in the Denver area to have it worked on?

Sounds like I should just take it to the shop if I can't set it my self after replacing the sensors?

How many miles on car?

More than likely it needs BOTH o2 oxygen sensors replaced.

Do a google search for mini cooper oxygen sensor replacement,  you will find the mini uses 02 sensors like regular maintaince items.  they hardly make it over 60 K .

The Sensors are not plug and play for the repair - you must have the proper tool to reset the computers "adaptives" to re learn the range of the new sensors/  BMW dealer time. or REALLY specialized mini aftermarket repair person needed. STANDARD MAC- OR SNAPON Scanners can NOT do this.

I went thru all this with my mothers 03 -  after she burned 4 valves in the head -  possibly from running too lean - possibly from bad sensors.  We knew the CEL was on because of lean codes. but failed to reset all items properly.

You can drive the car like this, but your fuel consumption is off. and has the risk of doing the same as mentioned above.

Goodluck

My 2003 Mini has the check engine light on. The OBD2 code is P0171 "System too lean". Any ideas? is it a CO2 senser or plugged injector. Is it okay to drive with it on?  I'm a new owner. I appreciate your help
