Spot on MiniCord, the car in strokernauts avatar is an Aussie assembled model. It may well have been exported to NZ and then foud it's way to USA. if the original chassis number is still on the car or you have a record of it's NZ license plate you may be able to trace it on this site - www.carjam.co.nz

Is it the one from the avatar in your profile?

The image is low resolution, but It's clearly a clubman front van. They were only made in Australia. It is likely this one was either a fully assemblied Mini from Australia, or a CKD.

In either case, BMH certificate will not help.

Surprising to hear there were any CKD 970s...  I for one would be interested to see the certiifcate in question....It would not seem worthwhile to run around, collect all the individual bits, build special packaging ..even though a 970 shell is identical to any other body of the same vintage apart from a few special bits. There must be  a special story here.

CKD kits sent to Oz were not individual "cars in a box".  One box contained a set of front panels, another bootlids etc...

Engines came with their UK serial numbers but car identities were assigned when body assembly was complete...which is why Oz cars don't belong in UK sequences.

Cheers, Ian

Thewerewolf, Please send me a copy to my email if possible if you would. Get my email through my profile. I guess I am surprised because they weren't much help to me with my Elf. THAT was my experience and that is why I didn't think they could help.

If you are right, I owe you an apology!!

New Zealand had a number of assembly plants (a surprising number!) that were assembling CKD kits from the UK but they also got small numbers of various models fully assembled from Australia at different times.
It is sometimes worth working out what a car is before trying to chase the history.

UK kits can be traced through the BMHT but the kits were not always built straight away.

Australian cars can't be traced through the BMHT but there are a few people around that can give you an approximate manufacture date from the cars ID number.

Thewerewolf, I am afraid you are mistaken. When a CKD car goes to NZ, the British Motor Heritage people can only tell you that it was a CKD car and sent to NZ. Nothing more. I had a NZ Riley Elf and they couldn't help me. What I was able to do was contact the New Zealand Transport Agency and they were able to tell me the build specs, where it was built, what options, where it was first sold. But they didn't want to give up that info easily.

Do a search for the New Zealand Transport agency. Contact them.

I have a New Zealand Morris Mini Panel Van and was wondering if anyone has ever done research to figure out the history of their car. I can go back two previous owners but the trail stops there. Please let me know if you have hints on ways to trace back further.
