i just moved from florida to denver and notice a dramatic loss in hp in the mountains. I have an 08 clubman S and interested in learning about chip upgrades and do they work. PLEASE advise.

The thinner air at altitude means less hp, regardless of the car. Although the modern ECU does its best to compensate, you still lose performance.
Have you done any other mods to the car?
As for the chip upgrades, yes it will help since they increase the overall hp - the result is better performance. The result will be better at sea level, but your car will still benefit at altitude.
Here is the link to the ECU upgrade.
Also take a look at the Sprint Booster - this may help you as well.
