97 should be MPI with two injectors not a throttle body like the SPI.
Very rare for them to go bad unless it has sat a while with old gas in them.

If in doubt, flat out. Colin Mc Rae MBE 1968-2007.

mininerd..  try Dr Mini. I gave him my SPI throttle body when I converted my car to Carbs.  I have used www.minispares.com to rebuild both SPI and MPI units. was about 275 quid. plus shipping both ways,.  I think www.burlen.co.uk  also still sells NEW MPI throttle bodies..   laterbc

Shame I didn't know about this in September, as I was in BC. Could have brought you the complete Gubbins, along with Inlet Manifold. Will be in Florida in 10 days time, but don't want to get involved, on holiday, with shipping stuff into Canada. Jim
ps...most problems, as Malcolm says, with Spi are down to vacuum lines and filter. I've never really had any problems with the many I've had.

If you are getting droplets, then that is a good indication it need attention.
There are places in the US that can service them.
One of them is in Washington state, I sent a batch of MPi injectors to them to be serviced.

I will try to dig up the website.

The MAP sensor can become fouled if the fuel trap is not run and replaced as needed. Although the vacuum may be correct, the map sensor may not be reacting properly.

Not sure if this is who I ended up using:
//witchhunter.com/
but I did email them a while back.

A 1992 Single point injection Mini has a throttle body which rarely ever goes bad.
Before you spend a load of money what is your car doing (what are the symptons)and how did you determine the tb is bad.

From my friend who is a mechanic:

Reconfirmed:

Cold & hot values for intake air temperature sensor both at the sensor and the ecu connector. Also checked the wires themselves for high resistance, short ect. All are exactly as they should be.

Cold & hot values for the coolant temperature sensor  with the same tests and the same results as above.

Checked vacuum values at the intake manifold and then at the map connection on the ecu. While slightly low at 17  at cold start and 19 at warm idle. They are within tolerance and as timing is ECU controlled it may be retarding timing at idle as part of the engine management which could cause this reading.

Engine compressions are good and well within 5% for each cylinder.

I have seen MEM's ecu's run rich due to damaged distributor caps on Jaguars in the past. I checked the cap & rotor next . The rotor's brass conductor was indeed loose and the brush in the cap was indeed irregular at the end.

I tightened the rotors conductor by heating the rivet to tighten it up, and replaced the carbon brush in the cap. it made little difference in the CO output. They are in excellent condition other than the above issues, and scope indicates strong single sparks for each cylinder firing.

I did remove the SPI injector from it's housing, as while running intermittent droplets could be seen falling in the spray pattern. I did find corrosion in the housing, so cleaned up the fixture, and replaced the O rings on the injector. I had hoped this would clear your rich running condition. But while again improving slightly, it has not corrected it entirely.

02 sensor is reading at .976- .998 volts indicating a rich running condition. But does trim if the input of fuel is restricted by clamping the fuel in line while the car is running.

Fuel pressure at the regulator is within 5% at 1.05 bar. That was re-checked also.

We have confirmation from the testing facility that your ECU is indeed running the factory ROM, and is not

Dwell/ duration on the injector, does vary with engine temperature, and with engine RPM's so the ECU is indeed controlling opening durations. Tested with a duty cycle meter while car was running. The injector is indeed running open & closed and has a duty cycle, so the ECU is trying to trim fuel.

The only possible conclusion I can come up with is the injector is worn, and the ECU simply cannot trim fuel correctly.
