It seems to me I have several MGB square bodied self-parking wiper motors. Working mostly on late roll-up window cars I have not looked into using them. Steve (CTR)

There are several models of "square" bodied wiper motor.

1959 & 1960 types had a two piece steel cover (DR2).   Early to mid 60s motors had a single piece aluminium cover (DR3).

When fitted to minis, the non-self parking types were used until the mark 2 came out in 1967.

Note that two speed versions of the above were available for other cars (eg Jag E type) so you could use one of those.

After that the DR3a self parker was used until the round body motor came along in the 70s.

Just be sure you check for wiper sweep angle and if nec. change the cogs in the motor or use other wheel boxes.

Obviously wiring changes are needed for self parking & two speed options.

Car engines make CO2 and trees absorb CO2. By running your engine you're feeding a tree and helping the environment.

I am not familiar with a "jelly bean" thing.  On the square wiper motors with park there should be a 2-piece cover for the drive gear.  The inner, dished part should have a red wire connected to it.  You should be able to loosen the screws holding the cover plate and turn the inner dished part until you get the wipers parking where you want.

Others with later Minis can elaborate and correct my simplistic suggestion.

So I am gonna add a question to this.  I have a 66 Innocenti Mini Traveller (LHD) that was rewired with all british wiring. this summer after it almost burned up, I scrapped the old harness and I installed a Innocenti harness from autosparks into it. Everything works as the Inno design, but the wipers ( I believe the Inno harness has a parking wiring setup).    I noticed my wiper motor is causing my wipers to park in the middle of the windshield.   I am assuming that the 67 wiper motor has the parking jellybean looking thing in the wrong position on the main cam gear.    How do I pull the gear and swap sides with the Jellybean???  I pulled the top cover off, and left the motor still mounted in the car.  I pulled the cam off the cable, but how do I pull out the main gear with the Jellybean looking parking tab???  (there is not 1 internet video that shows how to tear down the Lucas MK1 wiper motors).  When the old harness was in it, it was wired to just turn on and off with the swith and not park.

Thanks,

Challenge accepted!!  Wow, single wipe park.  I can dream.

I also don't drive, on purpose, in the rain.  Wipers not a big deal.

Thanks much.

Or you could work on your hand-eye coordination - once you get the hang of when to flip the toggle switch they will park nicely. You can even get good enough to perform a single swipe.

Oh... you probably could update.  However, you would need a wiper motor and wiring/switch for something like an early Spitfire.  You would probably have to modify a drive gear to have both the right ratio and the park switch.  I don't drive my Mini in the rain enough to worry about wiper parking.  It's all in the timing of when you cut the switch off.

Hello 66CooperS

Yes that does help.

And thanks for the chuckle.  Apparently my wipers were working all this time as they did in fact park where I turned them off.  Too funny.

You are correct.  Two wire, square motor body, stamped single cover.

No worries.  I just thought I could update.  I will leave well enough alone.

Thanks again.

Tim - looking at the IPB (Illustrated Parts Breakdown) the 520160A switch you quote is for the 4 wire two speed wiper - round and strap mounted as fitted to all models 1969-On and you have a '65
Was there a park feature for the wipers back then.  The "feature" back then was that they parked wherever they were when you turned the switch off.
The assumption I will make here is that you have a DR3A wiper motor (2 wire square body motor with a date stamp of something 65 or earlier) and that it has a one piece cover with this information stamped on it. My '66 MK1 Morris Cooper 'S has the DR3A with 2 66 stamped on it (February of 1966) and is a two wire unit.  The early Mk II used the three wire DR3A square type and has the self parking feature - identified by an external wire from the motor box to the gear cover.
Now you could buy one of these wiper motors but the date on it would probably be something 67 or later and only be used or rebuilt. (so if originality is a issue for you)  The additional feature with self parking is they went to the 120 degree wheel whereas you have 130.
The only other thing you would need to check is the Mk 1 vs Mk II wiring diagrams to see where the third wire is wired into the harness.
hope this helps.
