Mini is running nice now.  Fixed the choke cable, replaced the starter solenoid, added front spoiler with a Cooper sign where the license would be, added "Halo" headlines with LED bulbs and wired a lite in the speedo that comes on when I have the Halo lites on so I don't forget to turn them off.

Throwing my clubs in this afternoon and off to play some golf before the rain starts in Oregon.

Yes, I drove my mini today as I do every day. Am I the only one here who has put 176000 miles on his mini in the last 18 years?  It could use a paint job, a new screen would be nice a well. First gear synchro is about done on this gearbox. My ultra wide ratio tranny with 2.56 overall final drive is nice pulling 70 mph at 3000 rpm. On the other hand, dropping back to first has taken a toll. Currently giving thought to a 998 instead of the 1360 Cooper S. A S ratio tranny with a 3.1, .060 bore 295 head and twin 1 1/4 SUs should be fun while I go through the S unit. Steve (CTR)

Just watching your map route animation was a good ride imagining all those hills and twisties.
Thanks!  I took a little heat for the dance-trance soundtrack. That was a concession to my non-car buddies. The car guys wanted more exhaust, less music.

Those three 5 mph hairpins are tight! The inside rear tire lifts 3” off the ground!

YESSSS!

As HRH Queen Elizabeth once said it has been an "Annus horribilis" around here when it came to Mini driving - either the Mini was craving attention or the weather was to hot (health limitations)/too wet/too whatever to get any enjoyable time outside. BUT today was a fine fall day. I wasn't working and the Mini was ready to go, if a little dusty from sitting. No tour like Rosebud's but the Mini really behaved herself. Even my dear wife agreed to go to lunch in the Mini.

I'll sleep well tonight.

Ended up replacing choke cable when my fix broke. Scratched hands trying to work behind that small dash.

Been tinkering with the idle and low rpm roughness.  Found the choke not opening completely when I push in the lever.  Then a small adjustment in the timing.

Sunday drove up the JET Motors for a barbecue with the Oregon Mini group.  Only the second time I've met with this group.  Good People and nice cars.

Not this weekend but last weekend, yes.

Friday-Sunday four of us in classic Minis enjoyed a 700 mile 3-day "Mini Lap of Virgina". The route included a run down Skyline Drive and the Blue Ridge Pkwy. Both of these roads are extremely scenic with no traffic, traffic lights or stop signs, and only a handful of minor intersections encountered in six hours of driving. On Saturday we participated in a British car show, which had 7 Minis out of approx. 125-130 cars.

Harvey...with your new tires and hopefully your brake issues worked out, perhaps you'll be ready for Turkey Run 6 next month. Plans are being finalized for a round trip run down thru the OBX/Oregon Inlet/Manteo/Edenton etc. Announcement coming soon.

Well, I drove 2 today. Moke in morning, and then S in afternoon.  Sadly, something failed in S (knock, knock BANG!) and I've been waiting 2 hours for Triple AAA to get me back, and they say they are still an hour away because of "traffic".

Hopefully something as simple as gear linkage or even clutch, but on side of road on big hill I simply can't get underneath to see.

Right? I've gotten so used to people making a fuss, I actually resent it when someone doesn't. That's sick, man.

The sun shone, so ran errands with Moke. Wasn't warm, but was still fun.

yes, out with my new Michelins. First new tires in 16 yrs. The old Pirellis had tread left, but I figured they were getting a bit brittle. The new ride is smoother/softer with the extra new rubber.

Also, while I was at it, one of the 16 yr old Pirellis has replaced the (?) 28 yr old spare Dunlop.

Yes, my '68 Mini. Not a Cooper of any kind, but a Mini none the less. I like to take it for coffee and sit a little distance away and watch reactions to it. It's great when people, especially young women notice it and smile and say: "Oh my God look at that little car". I dislike it when people walk by and not look at it. They are not my people. I have absolutely nothing in common with them except the latte they are drinking. They are not "car people".

I like it when a wife says: "Look at the Fiat honey" and the husband corrects her with a slightly annoyed: "it's a mini". Those are my people.
Indeed, the word "Mini" should be reserved for any classic Mini.

Cooper S people are way cool, too cool. But a Mini is a Mini and a real car person cannot avoid noticing a Mini whether they love it or hate it.
