Depending on the boss fitted to the MotoLita, it may or may not actually cancel the indicators without modification.  Some of the cheaper knock-offs/repros need to have the spade extending to engage with the cancelling collar.

Thank you Malcolm. That’s exactly what I’m going to do. Mighty generous of you. I’m going to look up your info and send a picture or two and also explain what my problem seems to be. It looks like I’m missing the switch assembly clamp and it’s screw....

You can't move the inner shaft it is a fixed length and bolted to the steering rack.
You can move the outer column upwards by loosening the bolt near the lower dash rail.
Not sure of the year of your car so post the part number of the wiper/turn signal assembly you think you need or send me a picture on messenger (info in my profile) and i will check it for you.
One pin will work fine for cancelling the turn signals.

I was actually thinking that I could loosen this column bracket, and then pull the inner column up high enough ( ~ 3 cm ) so that the pins ( or single pin if it’s a fairly new steering wheel boss ) in the boss ( I have a moto-lita wheel and boss ) would trip the automatic turn signal. I’ve learned since posting these two posts that because something is broken in the twin stalk mechanism moving the inner shaft up ( if it was possible ) won’t cure the auto turn signal problem. This mechanism slides up and down the outer column instead of being fixed in one correct position. I thought that sliding either the inner or outer column up the correct amount would allow the auto cancel to work, but unfortunately it looks to me like I need to replace both halves of the twin-stalk switch mechanism. Sh*t! Now I have to try to make sure that I order the correct parts. Does any of this make sense to you ? If I find what I think are the correct parts, would you double-check them for me before I place my order ? BY-the-way, I think my steering wheel boss needs only one cancel pin instead of two because the later type of switch only has one slot for one cancelling pin. If you have some time could you look at the Mini Spares twin stalk replacements and see if you know what I mean ? You can either answer these questions here or use my Facebook messenger. My name on Facebook is Darren Giddings ( residing in PEI - Prince Edward Island ) , Canada. My home page has a picture of me ( in colour ) from when I was about 3 to 4 years old, and also has a row of different coloured Minis. Please let me know what you think Malcolm. Thanks, Darren. PS- if you don’t know what I mean, even roughly, please advise. Thanks. Looks to me like I’ll be ordering more part$.... PPS- it also looks like there is a central single part that is no longer available. I’m stuck.

No i was referring to the plastic stalks clamp that fits around the outer column right below the steering wheel.
Why are you removing the column?

Yes it is splined, so is the connection on the steering rack. You have to remove the bolt completely to remove the shaft. If you decide to replace the bolt pay attention to how long the shoulder part is. The shoulder part fits in a groove on the part from the steering rack, so it needs that shoulder part.

Are you going to take the st steering column apart? If so you may want to order and replace the two bushes on it.

Hi everyone. I’m looking to find out if the inner steering column ( on a 1989 LHD Mini ) clamp that is almost touching the floor/firewall and joined with a screw thru a split steel clamp to the part of the steering rack that just protrudes thru the floor is splined ? I think it must be, but would like to know for sure when I order the two stalks on the steering column. Thanks for any help, Darren.
