Later Jap spec ones with ac had vin plates in the boot.
Canadian Minis had them on the b post.

Get your Mini book out, BC, and add all the names of those made after Mk II versions.

Back to the original question, some of the South African cars had two Chassis Numbers. The one that came from England on the body shell and the one used in South Africa.

Like he  said.... really depends which Mk and which market.
MkIII and MkIV cars sold in CA had the vin on the left windshield post

FAB - it depends on whether you have a Mk1, Mk2, Mk3, ... or a Mk 4 (or later) that thinks it is a Mk 1, Mk 2, etc.
Try the search function above and use "vin location" it will bring up at least 6 articles for you to read.
The Mk1 used screws and was  next to the radiator shroud, Mk 2 rivets and different location.  Then you open up a different can of worms when you even mention "re-vin".
