If the bearing clearance is correct then you can't over tighten the bearing, that is determined by the bearing spacer (built in or not) So tighten to the recomended torque and don't worry.

Mini's are like buses they come along in a bunch

I see in the red mini looseleaf workshop manual torque on Cooper S and 1275 GT on the front hub at 150 lbs.

And 60 lbs on standard mini.  I torqued them to 150 and the rotors seemed tight. I've loosened them to 120 and they still seem tight.

Any thoughts?

I'd hate to ruin the bearings with too much tightness.

Car is 61 mini with S brakes and driveshafts.
