The fluid looks kind of purple/red. Is that DOT-5 fluid or an effect from the flash?
I'm sure you've read the threads that discuss how most hydraulic switches don't hold up with DOT-5. Some recommend changing to the Harley-Davidson hydraulic brake switch as it has a good reputation for DOT-5 compatibility. Switching to the pedal mounted switch is certainly a good way to put this permanently behind you.

This switch is maybe one year old. My brake lights were getting iffy. Decided to change to a switch on the pedal. Found the switch wet with brake fluid when I pulled the cover off to remove the wires. Might also explain why I have been not real happy with how the brake pedal has been feeling. This is an Accel switch.
