Problem with the VTEC is that the car becomes turns into a torque steer monster. This is likely the reason most ppl unload them after a year or two. But I agree with Alex. Your going to be a full year to do a conversion, not to mention out almost 20 - 30 large. Many people start and never finish. Just wait and get a car that already has the VTEC if this is something you must absolutely have. Ive seen the VTEC for as cheap as 15, and upwards of 40 for a real nice finish. That one in Texas looks nice, just get it for 20 and save yourself a ton of time.

Body is the same regardless of auto or manual.
Subframe is slightly wider where the engine mounts.

I doubt that would make a difference with a vtec as the subframe requires big mods anyway.
Not sure about a 75 for a Vtec as that's a MkIII and the sub mounts are different than a 76> (MkIV)

I'm interested in a classic mini. I would love to Vtec swap it. (I know some find this to be a disgrace) I was wondering if the Auto minis were the same as the manual ones in body builds. Making a Vtec swap kit work. I noticed the Autos were usually cheaper so I figured this might be a good option. I want to obviously have a manual at the end of the swap. Im also in California where a mini older than 1975 is not allowed. If I do the swap to a model after 75 and it passed smog could I register it? Any info would be great! I love the community here!
