Great glad you found the correct wire.
I would do a temporary electrical test before you install the headliner as it is easy to scratch up new paint taking it in and out.

Just returned from British Wiring (Bally PA) with an 8’ section of purple/white wire.
i will connect this to the double bullet connector (tucked into the headliner above the drivers door).
see picture in previous post.
the wire will run across above the windshield under the headliner in the metal trough to the RH side and then down the A-pillar to the RH door switch.

unfortunatley I am unable to fully test at this time (engine, battery, etc. not installed yet) but I will be able to install the headliner.   If I have any problems I will need to remove the headliner at that time.
thanks for all your input.

Thanks Malsal.
this company British Wiring is just 30 minutes away!
i see they also do restoration work so this may also be a mini mechanic in the Philly area.
i will plan to visit them soon.

Does “across the dash” mean in the engine compartment or inside the car?

Am I correct on the wire to use for the left hand switch?

if this is correct then ...
... one of the 2 wires at the headliner goes to the right hand switch “across the dash”
... what is the second wire for?

It's been a while, but I seem to recall a double bullet connector on one side of the car at the a-post, and a purple/white wire running the width of the dash to the other a-post

Thanks for the operating overview.

I believe the drivers door is OK.
there is a single purple/white wire coming out of the wiring harness in the door pillar at the dashboard shelf level which runs to the switch.

my real problem is with wiring the passengers door.
as you can see in the picture there are 2 purple/white wires at the headliner.
i am assuming one of these needs to go across the top of the windshield and then down the door pillar.
I do not know what the second wire is for.  Can anyone explain?

if I am correct I will need to get a 6-7’ section of purple/white wire.  Where would I get this?

I am still confused!
hope someone can set me straight.
thanks in advance.

Roger, the purple/white wire needs to feed through the large hole and out the small hole in the a piller, it will plug into the door switch that is then held in with a small screw. When the door is opened, the centre piece of the switch pops outward, closing the switch and completing the circuit. The swith is the ground side of the interior lamp. If the selector switch on the interior lamp is set  to "door" (is isn't marked "door", you just need to figure that out), the lamp will light when the door is opened. The purple wire is unswitched (always live) power to the interior lamp, the black wire at the switch is the ground for the interior lamp for when the selector switch on the lamp is set to "on".
Cheers,
Sean

Here are pictures of what I see on my 1966 Mini Cooper S LHD

1)
wiring harness above door post with leads going to dome lamp
purple, purple/white, black

2)
wiring harness at door hinge area with purple/white going to driver door switch

3)
wiring harness above door hinge area and windshield.
two (2) purple/white wires

Not sure where the wires in #3 go and how they get there!

I assume I need some wire(s) to go across top of windshield and then down to the
passenger door switch.  why the two wires?

Any assistance would be great since I need to resolve this before I can put the headliner back in.

Thanks... Very useful.
I replaced the wiring harness years (and years) ago.
nothing connected yet.
I’ll have to track down the wire.

Switches on both sides. Wire comes across the dash area, not down the A-pillar.

I have a light switch on my LHD door pillar which is connected to the wiring harness.

on the passenger side there is another hole in that door pillar.  I did find a second door switch in my box of bits but I do not see any appropriate wiring coming down the pillar.

did the original MK1 have a switch on each pillar or should I simply place a grommet on the passenger side?
