Or you just replace the panels on your existing car using a "pre-assembled" collection of parts.....transferring the body tag (remembering that Minis don't have VINs) at the same time.

Reminds me of the guy that had perhaps the only Austin Healy Sprite sedan on the East coast... Well, it had a valid title and Austin badges....

Cheers, Ian

MD in UK some states will NOT let you just build kit/ ckd without a MSO.. I know georgia DMV is like this. you just have to call DMV there in Vir. I can do it for you here in NC. BUT I charge $2500 for the paper work PLUS expenses . but I guarantee legal Vin number and proper NC title. later bc ps. most states also require the builder to do his OWN paperwork.

MD-IN-UK  is here in the US not in the UK guys.
Short answer is you cannot just attach your old vin number to a new shell legally here in the US.
Every State probably has a different rule or way to do it but here in Florida you would present the car for inspection at the local DMV with all your records and expenses and get an assigned vin number.
Now how many owners would go to that much trouble and not just attach their old vin plate to another shell is another story

if  you're in the UK ask where they test the MOT's. There's a points system or used to be based on how much of the original stuff you keep or transfer.

If you're in the states, maybe it can be done with an inspection by DMV or the state police.  Stateside, I'd think it becomes a kit car.  Maybe not. And pretty sure it varies state to state.

MD in the Uk.. are you doing this in the UK?/ if so their is points system. maybe Alex. can chime it.. think you get 5 points for new shell.. one for new engine.. one for one brakes. one for new tranny.. to make eight points.. you can look at DLVA website for Radical rebuilds.. or.. if you in the USA in it quite easy. here in NC you get pre inspection to get state vin number called NCS. on at MVR 31.. you have build sheet , MVR 55. title bond MVR 92 and MVR 92h.. vin inspection AFTER car in finished lic and theft 270. all the DOT EPA papers.. HS7. 3501 and CBP 7501 .. and bill of sale.. this is how I did all the CHOKES. each state , well except Texas allow some sort of Kit CKDs and state vin number. I do NOT know any state in the USA you can transfer the vin plate from one car to another for ANY reason.. call me like for more detail. later bc 1.704.487.6797 home

I was looking at the thread "Nice Mini, except" and the thought came to me.
1.If you buy a shell, partial, or complete, how do you get a VIN for it?
2.Is it a kit car?
3.Has anybody here even tried doing that yet?
4. If your transferring everything from another car due to extreme rust issues, do you transfer that VIN?
I'm sure others will come up with more questions, till then, I'm just curious.
