I agree with you all the this Moke has had many Portuguese enhancements / wing extensions etc but, contrary to what you are all saying, the shell itself is actually a genuine English shell.

This is why:

  1. 1.  It still has the extra screen support panel on each side of the bulkhead panel - the one that the screen ends butt up against. Portuguese Mokes never came with these and the angle of the Portuguese screen support panel is completely different to the English style.
  2. 2.  The RH pannier floor still has the original flutes in it. Portuguese Mokes had a flat panel.  The Moke does however have a Portuguese panel under the fuel tank.

3.  It has a completely flat bulkhead panel behind the carbs. Portuguese Mokes had a dished bulkhead.

4.  It still retains the English style rear load area support panel under the boot floor. Portuguese Mokes had one that went the full length of the floor.

5.  Both inner rear wings do not have the panel with the extra ribbing that is spot welded on all Portuguese Mokes.
6.  It still has English front subframe mountings and not the later teardrop type that Portuguese Moke used.

7.  Bill - The chassis number is 100% genuine and dates the Moke to a build date around the 1st or 2nd February 1966.  In fact we own one of the Catalina wrecks with a chassis number less than 20 away from this one.   "8AN" prefixed engines were used exclusively on Mokes destined for the US market.  Perhaps you could post up the BMIHT reply because I disagree with them.  Roger

If you are not a purist convert it as it is not that hard to do.

I noticed and commented on that too.
The only reason i could come up with is that when the "restoration" was done it was replaced and the only panel available was a fixed grille or whoever built it was trying to pass it off as a UK shell.
Also with all the work done why would you use an 850 cc engine /box?

They are trying to quash any indication that the VIN issue is a potential problem. If it gets seized in the future, they might need a good lawyer and a hefty wallet to reimburse the buyer. Nice Moke, but they should have gone with the original 998 engine that was in the Moke if they wanted top dollar. The real winner here is Jeremy, who seems to rack up big fees for wrenching on these cars for the west coast folks with loads of money to throw at him.
