had my coker tires installed today.. chap the tire store, a different place said standard rim.. he knew how to do them and said old tire was probably mounted right and tire failed.. I had better Kuhmo tires than these Pirelli.. my Kuhmo tires were good tires.. I Don't know how old they were but they were good tires.. I cannot find those 10" Kuhmos anymore

I had Pirellis on the Moke, they were 10 years old, still had some thread on them but they had cracks all over. One of the threads delaminated.

I have had 4 sets of Pirelli tires in 3 different cars, Mini and my 500 Abarth and never been happy with them. their winter tires suck! Luckily I saw it before it became a problem

The design of the rim dictates which side of the rim to mount from. Basically, when looking at the inside of the rim, there's a recessed area that the tire has to drop into in order for the opposite edge to clear the rim without breaking stuff internally in the tire. This recessed area is normally closer to the back on Mini wheels, but not always. A good tire man should be able to look at rim and know which side to mount from.

JimOhio.. my rule on thumb on tyres.. is to change them EVERY five years..  all makes difference like Deb said.. were they mounted.. ?? inside heated /cooled garage?? Talon Tyre  might be your best bet.. Coker sure are PROUD of their Tyres.. and NOT CHEAP..  looked at them for my Morgan 4/4  which has old ball size.. 187/70/15.. and they wanted $290 EACH..  ( I found the in the UK for 40 quid each. and shipped in rear seat of  car.. later bc

And if they only have a three digit code they were made before 2000 (!), if I remember correctly.
Look for the code on the side of the tire, usually found shortly after "DOT" if a legal tire for sale in the U.S..

From the front side of the wheel some Mini's mount best from the rear side.
Check the four digit date code Jim it reads something like 20 12 which would be 20th week of 2012.

Std rims or mags? If the tires were mounted from the front then they probably broke the band when they stretched them to fit them. they should be installed from the back...
www.talontire.com has 10" tires in stock.

i had them several years.. the seller had them a while.. how can i tell how old they are.

even if old, they had less than 100 miles on them.. I guess i don't understand tire technology and expected at least pirellis not to come apart, from the inside

Look at the date code Jim you are probably driving on 10 year old plus tires.

Coker Tire buys the molds from major tire makers when a series of tires goes out of production.  They then mold those tires using original tooling so you can have the "correct" tires for your antique/collector car.  They have been catering to the old car hobby for years and have a good reputation.

You said the Pirellis had been in your shed for about 6 years.  Where were they before that?  I don't remember Pirellis being available since I bought my car as a project almost two decades ago.  Some say the life of a tire is about 7 years max.

Had the opportunity to tour the Coker Tire car museum in Chattanooga back in 200? When Hugh Cannon saved the day and hosted MM East

I remember it particularly well as my BRG Cabriolet won the first annual Brian Owens, Best In Show Award

I know, it's not really local, but Coker Tire has 145 Camac radials for 65 bucks. Chattanooga isn't too far from Ohio.

Either the tires were very old or whoever mounted them damaged the tire, which has happened to me before with tires for 10" wheels.

Just another benefit of owning a moke, Check your tires on the fly, check your petrol level , expose yourself to passing female drivers, ??

had a good reputation, right?  well I am going on I-71 in my Moke.. I know I should not be on interstate highway in the Moke since it tops off at 53 MPH and other reasons.. but anyway.. going about 50.. then I feel the front right end sag.. i lean out, since no door and see the tire flopping.. pull over.. and what do I See.. all kinds of wires.. not that I ran something over but wires coming out from inside the tire. I had these tires in my shed for about six years.. zero miles basically.. but what happened?  total tire faliure. i have another one on the other side.. that will fail too, right?  big hassle.. I used to be able to buy 10" Kuhmo tires locally. I called the place.. they are trying to track down.. I know I can buy online but would like to buy locally.
