Some people have used RTV as a glue to hold them on. Some have used 3M trim tape.

I was afraid this might be the response.
i just checked the inside of the body panel and it looks like there had been two rivets on each side.
i guess when the body was painted the rivet/clip was removed or they had come off
and the hole was filled in.
For now I will leave the extensions off unless there is a non-rivet option.

I have never done one of this, but I think you will need these brackets https://www.minimania.com/part/ADA3583/Classic-Austin-Mini-Mki-Grille-Moustache-Whisker-Clip-In-Stainless-Steel riveted into the front panel in order to hold the extensions in place,

i purchased the grill surround extension and the clips.
i do not understand how these are attached to the mustache grille.
can anyone provide assistance?
the extension is the 6” piece that attaches under the front turn signals.
