Just found a picture of my mini prior to taking it apart.
turns out the reducer is not at the firewall but rather at the stiffener plate on the fender.
so that is where I will put it.

I know you guys are talking about reducers, but I have a front metal screen that goes on the front part of the heater hose. Is that proper?? Or did it come off of something else??

The build date on my “S” is July 7.

Interesting, and good to know. June is a few months earlier than I thought on the change. The reducers are some of the last changes to the models (along with a double skin bootlid) that carried on into the Mk II models, if I recall correctly.

I don't think anyone has figured out a definative date the reducers were starting to be used. There is a some side discussion on this in the last listing for an original Austin Cooper S sold on BAT...the 80k one. With all of the original cars popping up they are narrowing down the date of first use. My original car has the reducer installed with a build date of June 1966.

Recently saw a 1966 S with the fresh air hose plastic reducer (large hose from heater to small hose to grill) positioned at the stiffener panel on the side wall.
This is is the same place where the fresh air hose for an early 1966 S terminates and held in place by a bracket screwed to this stiffener panel.
Is this the proper location for this plastic reducer or should it be closer to the firewall.
