More pictures would help, but you Mini appears to be a mid 1980s to mid 1990s car.

To correct Spitz not all Jap spec Mini's have different vin numbers it was just that way for a few years in the late 80's. From what i have heard it only applies to Mini's that were sold new there  and they all start with 99X so this would not be a Japanese vin.

Peterg. If your Mini is a 1980 or newer it will have the correct vin number stamped in the scuttle panel gutter just in front of the wiper blade on the passenger side of your LHD Mini. It is sometimes easier to read with a mirror from the bottom side. To determine the year of your car there are date stamps all over Mini's the two easiest to get to are on the wiper motor and boot latch, they will be four digits stamped eg:12 82 which would be the 12th week of 1982 build. The vin number you have as charrison said might be an Austin America one or even a Morris Minor one possibly.

Edit: i did not see Miguels post.

A A - Austin America ?

IE ADO 16 or what we call an 1100 in UK.

are the numbers stamped from the back side of the tag or the top?  What year is the car supposed to be?

Is it a Jap import MINI by chance?  I understand they give it another VIN other than the UK one ( although I can't find one on my 89 )

The number doesn't match up with any Mini Chassis Number (VIN) that I'm aware of. How did you come about the number? On a car or paperwork?

Hello,

I have an Austin Mini (probably) that has a weird VIN - I cannot identify it using the guides posted on MiniMania.

I am considering whether this is just a forged number, but I'd at least like to identify what make/model it describes.

The number reads: AAS10L62848A

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Peter
