I heard he’s really good with original mini restoration but I’m not sure if he has done a proper Works rally mini.
Armycook has been helping me a lot and he already introduced me to a few of his network in UK and Japan for the Works bits that matches the same group and year with the 33EJB. We might have to change it to a different car though just because Paddy Hopkirk’s #37 is a 1964 1071S and the Gaydon museum car is somewhat different now because of the stolen parts got replaced with different items not matching what was there originally.
We will be flying to UK soon and will try and meet the Hyrons and see if we can replicate another P. Hopkirk car that is the LBL666D.
I have the Anatomy of Works Rally Mini book but it is incomplete I’m afraid. Armycook should rewrite that book and add a lot more useful information.
While Paddy won the 64 Monte in EJB it actually happened in the first weeks of 64 ...so his car was actually a 63......
And if a few "souveneered" bits have put you off EJB then good luck with any of the more obscure members of the Club.... and once you decide on a car then its ..... "which event?"
I'm not surprised that some bits have gone missing from EJB. Gaydon was very trusting; a few years ago I was allowed a considerable period of time alone with EJB. My guide became bored and I was able to sit inside (having obtained permission), open things to take photos and generally enjoy myself on my Pat Malone.
Cheers, Ian

Works rally minis had their wires wires redone and you can find the wire looms in the UK but that’s another long story. Fuel lines and battery lines should be moved inside and that also depends what year and group.

When you say “real deal” goodluck to even getting inside that circle to put a bid.
Stay away from from some of the popular shops that have Paddy Hopkirk and his replica car on their company because the Works parts being sold are NOT up to par with the real Works parts and quality is so horribly made. Take your time and do your research. And unless they’ve access or in the network of real works rally cars then I wouldn’t waste my time asking them. Also not all Cooper S experts know what’s in those cars too.

Chris Velopackrat told me about this thread. First is you need to know what you have first. A proper replica of an existing Works rally minis will belong to a certain group and are all different depending on what rally they competed in. I chose CRX90B because honestly it’s one of the toughest car to find on the internet so it would’ve been a nice challenge. The car competed in many rallies and it’s very different from when Paddy Hopkirk drove it at the RAC rally and when it was with the Morley brothers at the ‘65 Monte Carlo.
I am the admin of my own Facebook group page “Classic Works Rally Minis” and we have about 2k members there from retired comps electricians, bodyman, mechanics to a few collectors and drivers. It’s a small and quiet group. I made the group because I came to a dead end trying to find more photos and until now my car isn’t finished. You are welcome to join in and ask around.
I can help but it takes a lot of commitment than restoring a cooper S I think. It will either make or break the appreciation value of your car too. If your car’s make year and model doesn’t match or at least close to the actual Works car’s then it won’t work and you’re gonna end up regretting it. Same thing with how I regret starting mine as a LHD. If your car is a LHD and decide not to convert it then I won’t be of any help just because when you say “proper” I’m assuming you want it done close to the real thing and true heart of a Works rally mini is found in the wires.
My car is not a perfect replica but I try my best to get it there and that will not happen in probably 2-3 more years.

If in doubt, flat out. Colin Mc Rae MBE 1968-2007.

make a car lighter and it's faster everywhere. Colin Chapman.

Just retired from the Airforce and I brought home with us my 1965 Cooper mark 1. Me and my brother worked on the car for years but I would like to prepare the car to have a proper Works rally mini theme. Does anybody know anyone who I can talk to as far as getting the parts inside and out? It will be a serious build so I am reaching out to the professionals here.
