You said "wired as it should be" but it makes me wonder if the main power feed (should be ignition-switched) and the keep alive feed were cross-connected somehow.
The unit I have doesn't draw much at all - I only put the trickle charger on for winter storage.

Funny there should be that much draw. The keep alive memory draw should be minimal from a radio. I am driving every day for now but I'll see what happens when I take the wee beastie off the road for a couple months.

I miss having AM radio I admit, but I can always stream via phone and bluetooth if I need talk radio to keep me awake.

Yes, mechless :) Unfortunately I CAN hear it above idle. I think I better add an exhaust upgrade to remedy that :) Sound is passable so far. The antenna is missing so I am going off a mediocre FM feed. I will be fitting an antenna today and perhaps downloading a few tunes onto USB to see how it is. Mind you.. the stock speakers aren't any great shakes so... Even so. I'm pretty happy.

I guess that radio falls into the category of "mechless" receivers.  What do you think of it so far?  Can you hear music at something other than idle?

I found a cool and CHEAP radio that is perfect for later Rover Minis this weekend. The one in my recent JDM had major issues: 1) it was too big and stuck out an inch or so proud of the dash, and 2) having the JDM tuner I couldn't get the radio station I work at. (99.9 FM) Poking around Walmart i found a Blaupunkt Wyoming radio, that has FM, USB and Bluetooth. It was only $24. It is also only about 4 inches deep so it fit beautifully. (ignore the black tape.. gluing down some loose varnish...) anyway, for $24 and a one year warranty.. pretty happy. I play my mix tapes of USB sticks anyway so no need for a disk player or tape deck. Just thought I'd pass this along.
