The uprated one is not much more.  It's listed as New.....so if you end up with a rebuilt  =  refund

Thanks gentlemen, I will look for a Bosch. I put one on my tractor and it still works. My mini has been pretty reliable except for this alternator issue.

If you must have originality, follow the advice given above.

If you just want a reliable working alternator... Google for articles on alternator swaps from other cars.  Bosch and Saturn are somewhat popular swaps now.  In the old days common donors were the Ford Fiesta (Bosch from early '80s), Delco 10SI, or Delco 12SI.

Any alternator swaps that discuss the MG Midget or MGB will work.

Try one from a different source, I have seen bad rebuilds in batches. Went to buy a rebuilt timing belt driven waterpump for an escort years ago, every one in the store was over pressed and locked up, would have snapped the new belt and bent the valves in a heart beat. I just happened to try to turn it by hand.

I just ordered my third alternator in 6000 miles. This model (GEU205) , the 34 amp model. This last one only lasted 1000 miles. The wiring harness is new , Negative ground car. Anyone else seeing issues with this model? Any ideas what is causing the alternator to stop working? Checked the belt, no issues. Checked the battery, battery tester says normal They have an easy life as I don't drive at night much.
