Sounds like you may have a defective MAF...

Carburetor Cleaner is best used on older engines such as this beautifully restored Classic Austin Cooper mini. There is MAFS cleaner just for the purpose that will not harm the sensor elements.

My Mini doesn't runs well when switch for MAF is plugged. I tried using Carburator cleaner and the situation worsened.
What's your take on this?
