Does the wiring travel down to the front of the radiator? if so connect the two wires and the fan should work.
You have a few choices you can replace the radiator or if your radiator is in good condition just get an aftermarket sensor that you install into the top hose or you can install a switch and operate it manually.
Remember an auxiliary fan on a Mini has no benefits when you are driving it just helps in traffic.

I can't shoot a picture for you today.....but my 89 Jap spec MINI has the connection/switch low down just to the right of back side of the rad. (towards carb)

On the later Mini's it is located on the bottom radiator tank facing the grille.
