I'm sort of slowing down on fielding the British A-series stuff in Lemons mostly because of BTDT and it's costing a lot in time and parts to keep them going and there are fewer people appreciating the particular fun/challenge of competing against modern machinery whilst using 1950's British technology.

With that said, I have probably the next level of bottom-scraping in the crapcan racing world which is a 2003 Hyundai Accent-- it's claimed 104hp according to internets, DOHC 1.6L and 5-speed manual trans. As Lemons racing has evolved and speed creep and experience has brought everyone up a notch or 6, so too has the base level car. It's cheap to operate, easy to drive, replacement parts are plentiful, and it's underpowered but in the right hands it is still quite capable of placing better than top half overall.

This particular one has been a daily driver ever since I drove it SoCal to Houston in Nov, raced it 10-ish hours, and drove it BACK to SoCal (28-36mpg on HWY, up to 21mpg on the tracK!)

Oh, and if it matters, there's actually a spec series for them in Korea and Australia

Anyway, anyone interested in giving wheel-to-wheel racing a try, the Inde Motorsports Park complex is a great first foray because the field is relatively small (probably only around 50 cars +/-) and not much to hit out there if you lose it, and the Excel could actually win its class. I've won there before in the 62 Mini so I know what it takes to compete, I just don't always care to. But I'm open to whatever the team wants to do. I'm currently seeking 2-3 people who want to give LeMons a try. Estimated shared costs for the weekend are $650 for entry fees, gas, tires etc. plus whatever you want to do for food and lodging. Race is Feb 23-24. 2019 (best to be there on Fed 22 some time before 5pm to get gear teched and whatnot).

If you have safety gear, great. If not, I do have SOME loaner stuff or you can rent a complete setup from racesuitrental.com  I can pick you up at the San Diego airport if you want to fly in ahead of time and I have a crash pad for you to stay a few days before/after if you're looking to hand in SoCal a little to make your flight worth it. It's "rustic" but it's free. I'll probably drive out some time on Thursday and return very late Sunday so flights that arrive Thursday before noon and depart Monday morning from San Diego are do-able. Otherwise, look yourself into Phoenix and/or Tucson with car rentals.

I need to have commitments and deposits by about Feb 9-10. Shoot me a pm if you're interested.
