regardless of which one you have look at the wear items in shifter, diff cover, and linkage.  Could be just tightening up the nuckle will improve the shifting.  Also the nylon cup, wear on the bronze bushings in the diff cover, and the rear mount.  Also the bell crank and the fork ...
Look for wear on all the moving parts.

OK..to clear it up...lol

At present I believe I have an AA remote shift operating a Mini differential.  If that's not possible, I have a pooched remote shifter.

I need a Mini remote shifter.  Already have the Mini diff in place.

Sorry I misunderstood... I thought you were after an ADO16 remote.

As others have mentioned, the Mini one is different and requires a different diff cover, which requires machining, which requires removal of the engine and gearbox...

I have a Mini one, and likely the mini diff cover if you are adventurous :)

Sptizs I'll send you an email later today. Need to get to work. Make sure it's the correct shifter otherwise you'll need to change the housing it bolts to. I can send a photo so we are certain it's what you need. I just started tearing down my 63 Cooper and have been going thru all my parts as I box up stuff I remove from the car. I only have these type of shifters and hope one works for you. Aftrer 27 years of owning my mini it's amazing the amount of stuff I've acquired. And for some reason I just picked up another MK1 shell.

Cheers.

I have a couple complete shifters that are in good shape. They are part # 22A250 which has the four bolts (two short and two long) that screw up into the transmission. Would love to see somebody use one of them.

To determine what you have you will need to look under the car ... are the remote mechanism retains bolts (the ones that connect it to the diff case) horizontal or vertical (when viewed from on)?

The former means an AA gearbox the later a Mini...

Obviously they're not interchangeable (at least not without an amount of machining...)

Cheers, Ian

John....to be honest I can't remember which shifter is in there.  I had assumed it was the one that came with the 1098 that used to be in there.
When I put in the 998, I can't remember seeing a rubber sandwich.....could it be connected to the on the 1098?

The car drives fine at the moment ( I mean in the summer ), but is just quite difficult to shift.

Keep in mind, it's damn cold here right now and can't really get at the car or the old gearbox to check.   (It was -38 last night )

Bill...not asked there yet.  Have looked however

I've got a bare housing in NY but like you said, shipping costs on that heavy piece of aluminum.   Needs the stick, fork and sandwich plate. It's just the bare housing.

Which shifter do you currently have?  does it have the rubber sandwich (22G245)?  If you have the 22A250 remote housing as used on the Cooper 'S and held on with 4 bolts - 2 short and 2 long.  Please note that you will also need the diff cover.

Presently, my 61 Estate has a remote shift in it that was attached to a 1098 that came in it when I got it.  I'm guessing the whole unit was from
an Austin/MG 1100.  It's difficult to shift.

Looking for a remote shifter.  Preferable in CA as shipping from the US is rediculous nowadays.

Thanks
