My major issue is that what's been turning up, I can't verify that it will work for my car. I haven't found any solid DIY guides for doing this on a mini. I really need both of those things.
We had Mel's turbo setup in our booth at SEMA when it was first introduced. We stopped carrying the product due to low interest, many years ago.

There may be some low pressure kits out there, but we are not aware of any at this time. The Cooper S engine with the supercharger had lower compression, better quality valves, stronger internals and better internal lubrication, all to accommodate the forced induction.  When you add a turbo to the stock Cooper engine, you don't have any of this so you should proceed with caution.

Mel's Auto in San Marcos, CA developed a kit for the gen1 Cooper that they were going to market, but not sure if they ever did. You can google their phone number and give Mel a call. It involved putting a 5th injector in the line that kicks in under boost. The whole setup is in one of his daily drivers and it passes CA smog.

Another person to chat with is Yoshifab. He does turbokits for all sorts of stuff. He can also be found on the web.
