+1 to Ian's suggestions.
It sounds to me like the hydraulics are constricted or less likely the pedal itself is seized or binding. A stuck release bearing shuttle would prevent the clutch from re-engaging.

Hi JP... remote diagnosis is a really dodgy area because we don't really know what you are looking at.
However, I would start with what I reckon is the easiest to solve...and a somewhat likely problem.. change the flexible hose that runs from the clutch slave to the join with the rigid pipe from the clutch master. I think (and use) the stainless sleeved version is better than the original rubber version - although the rubber one is cheaper and lasts quite well... While I was doing this I would remove and dismantle the slave cylinder to make sure its not gummed up... A new rubber seal is cheap and easy to install - but won't help if the cylinder bore is badly damaged... although, if the damage is not to bad it can be cleaned up with a homemade hone... and is easily replaced if beyond repair.
It could be the master cylinder ??? ... or maybe the release bearing shuttle ??? Or maybe the pedal pivot is corroded ???
That's why I suggest you start with the easy bit
Cheers, Ian
PS the veto and non veto clutches are easily differentiated... is the clutch arm short - verto - or long (you guessed it)

Hello Mini Friends,
I recently purchased my first classic mini. It was imported from UK to US about 12 years ago and sat in a storage unit since then. I was hoping to get it on the road this spring. Finally got it running and all the wiring fixed. Now I'm down to this clutch issue "I think". So the problem i'm facing is actually multiple things. I can push the clutch in but it doesn't return very fast probably 30 sec until its completely back to the normal position. the other issue is I can put the car into gear but it never moves. Doesn't matter what gear its in. So i assume its a clutch issue. Its a 1980 so it would be pre-verto. Any troubleshooting tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I did take the inspection cover off the clutch housing but i have no idea what i'm looking for. Thanks again, JP
