Malsal,

I have not changed the wheels, and it appears to have happened all of a sudden. It appears that their is no rubbing on the shocks.
Just the metal. I just sent you some photos to your email.

Have you changed the wheels? Rover Minilights will rub either on the lower edges of the wheel well or the radius arm if you do not use spacered drums.

Hi Chris, no, not too big. 145/70s are factory fit....

Too much camber generally shows up as rubbing on the shock absorber..

You probably need to get under the car to see what's going on.

Ian, 

Thanks for the response and excuse my terms. I feel that it appears that it is toe in based on the angle and what you mentioned, but i think i meant to say it has more negative camber and gives the appearance of toe in if that makes sense. Sorry about that, I have my verbiage a little mixed up.

like  Alex said.. you can NOT use 80 Series 12 inch tyres on a mini..  they are too tall.. 21.5 inches. instead of 19 inches for normal. Falken 165/60 12 inch tyre..   later bc

12" wheels - what width and what size tyres ?
Some combinations require extra spacers.

Get a proper 4-wheel alignment done before changing any more parts, it could just be that a rear arm or bracket is bent.

Before I jumped to conclusions I would want to know.. how much is “significant toe in”???  If you drew a line along the outside of the rear wheel, where would that line hit the front tyre... ie how far across the tread?

If you jack the rear wheel up, and grab the wheel at 3 and 9 o’clock can you twist the wheel in and out.  Is it loose or does it move (if it does move) with some degree of resistance?? Try this with the handbrake on and off.

If you grab the wheel at 9 o’clock can you move the back of the ??   Does the front outer end of the trailing arm - or its bracket- move???  

Is the bolt on the inner end of the trailing arm pivot as tight as...?

With the car sitting on a level (ish) surface how much distance is there between the tyre sidewall and the inner wheel arch?  I assume its touching at the front lower edge of the inner arch..

Are you still using spacered rear drums?

Fair, yes as we all know every piece that we replace on these cars seems to have more rust than assumed. i agree and would like to change out the sub frame, but would this cause an all of a sudden change and the tire to rub? just curious? thanks for the help

My name is Chris 

I recently started having a rear tire rub on the inside rear wheel well. Vehicle has significant toe in on the right side and only rubs when I turn. 

1990 Classic Rover Mini with 12" wheels

Items checked and replaced: 

- New shocks
- New wheel bearing
- Shifted wheels to make sure wheel was not bent
- Checked rear strut and components, but appears to be in tact
