Hey Bill,

Didn't I just read that Morgan was bought out by someone recently? Wasn't it an Italian investment firm.?
Too bad.

Last of its kind.

I was with my wife at a car show a couple of years ago, when she pointed at a car she had never seen. It was a Cord, I told her, loud enough for the owner to hear, that it was a nice car if your just getting into the hobby, got a good chuckle out of him. At least classic and modern mini's are mostly in the reach of the average person. More than a few people see my mini and don't have any memory of the car, but they sure do like it, and I nearly always get a wave from Mini owners.

MD-IN-UK.
Yes of course, though I was only referring to cars that would have been for sale during the person's lifetime.

I'll do you one better, The Cord. I had the pleasure of an up close visit with one several years back. I could only dream of what those times must have been like.

Here here!

We own 3 MINIS/Minis.....2 modern, 1 Classic.

We "see" our 1987 RHD Mini from Wales as the (ahem) 'real' Mini and the others (09 & 12) as BMW recreations of the Mini.

Even in Canada where we got the Mini until 1982?(81?) most folks <40 yrs old have never seen a Classic Mini so I cut them slack.

Our baby Beemers are nice, reliable cars & get a few looks from time to time (nearest dealer is 2+ hrs away, so there aren't an abundance in my city of 70k.
The classic is NOT reliable and gets ALL the looks. A gas to drive.

Like it or not BMW owns the Mini/MINI name and can do whatever it pleases. (we can never roll back the hands of time, much as we'd like to...)

There are very very few cars (any?) produced today the same as they were 40 yrs ago and when was the last time you read about a car company still owned by the same family/corporation as it was in the 1960's?

Time marches on...

  • I just want to inform the OP that the car in the commercial ad isn’t the CRX90B replica. I don’t hate MINI owners even though a lot of the new models are bigger than Honda Civics and they act like their cars are cute.

I don't understand why some Mini owners choose to be so hatefull to MINI folks. Yeah, there's plenty of the MINI owners who haven't got a clue about Mini history. I was once one of them. Given the Mini was no longer available in the US after 1968, it should come as no surprise that so many MINI owners are not well informed. The exception being those like myself, who chose to learn more. If you haven't figured it out by now, I own both, and enjoy them considerably. While I proudly can say I am the original owner of my R53, I can only dream that I could say the same for my Mayfair. You see, I was a 10 year old in 68, and 6-8 years later, I had no idea what a Mini was. I was a GTO guy then. Pontiac made those, for you guys who may only know Mini's.

You see how that little dig can be used against you? I'll apologoze now, as I don't intend to get anyones dander up.

The way I see it is, it's a commercial. It's sole purpose is to sell MINI's. I'm pretty certain they did that way back in 1959 too. So let's keep the ball rolling and hope lots more folks will go out and buy, and enjoy there MINI'sfor a long time too.

Armycook’s mini is not #37 but #72 CRX90B. Just read on another mini forum that his car won Grand Boulevard People’s Choice award beating million dollar concours cars. Should be a major plus points to our cars.

maybe next time use Hershey's chocolate syrup. Then go around tasting each dribblet and go, "Yep, Castrol... This one is...mmmm.... I think it's valvoline. Yes, definitely Valvoline...  mmmm Oooh, Bradd Penn. Someone got the fancy oil. Lemme taste THAT one again!"

Yeah, but Bill, it had to be an intent to pollute the area that put her over the top. Classics can't help themselves when they mark their territory. I've only heard the legend of those days; I would have liked be there to see the response!

I suspect the only USA aspect to that commercial is that it aired in the USA. OK, maybe the BINI shots were done where there are palm trees, but who knows where that might be. Anything with the red Mini going by is old footage.

Gotta give credit where credit is due: That was funny as hell when I read about how you did that. Thumbs up.
