A few years ago my Son had two bogus checks on a Nissan Maxima he was selling, one from New Jersey and the other (which the bank originally cleared) was from Miami.

I placed an advert for a Mini Traveller last week. I received a response (can be viewed under the ad) from a [email protected]. Somewhat suspicious grammar and spelling, but could be a result of cultural differences. Started off normally but quickly escalated to "I'll send you $4500, and have car inspected by transporter company. You will pay them $2500 when they pick up car." When I asked for his contact info, phone, address, etc., I was told I'd get that when the inspectors arrived. I asked who the inspectors were and was told "they are in the US." I required full contact info, including the name of the bank on which the check would be drawn, and wire transfer before releasing the car. I have heard nothing since. Apparently we have some bad actors (many) lurking on the site. Caveat Emptor.
I just saw the post by Killerofsaints referring to the same chap.
Well done.
