Bill, funny seeing your mention of Little Milton just now heard his version of  "I Can't Quit You Baby", the studio version that starts with the arpeggio. Laptop to Fender amp to 4 x 12s up on the loft.  Blatant plug, check out Xblues, only 18kbps, doesn't eat up your data plan like other streams.

hi jimatalba.. lucky for me I am have been importing cars for the last 46 years..  the last 21 as NC lic dealer and now a NC manufacture..  and I have ONE person in tag office in Next county over to do all my Foreign titles.. ( I am BANNED from the tag office in Cleveland Co NC.. ( imagine that??)  over my knowledge of title bonds and foreign titles.. and now I can actually get a INSTANT title the New Bern Ave office in Raleigh  NC on either type of title.. I actually get calls from NC DMV in Raleigh NC asking me about foreign titles from time to time..   Used to have same problems here in NC.. but got to know the Commish of NC DMV..  cured all my title problems.. later bc

Ah, if only it was that easy.  Different Counties in Florida seem to make their own Rules up as they go along.
I've a feeling Malcolm could write a book as long as War & Peace about his experiences with Orlando DMV.

The original poster OWNED the Moke in Portugal, so you would think it would be straightforward getting it Titled in Orange County. Obviously he will have all his Import Clearance documents, and I would assume he has got it Vin Verified. In theory he could then apply for a Title, without proof of insurance, so long as he isn't using it on the road.
However, speaking from my own limited experience, and to quote a far more experienced licensed Dealer.."the average clerk at the Orlando DMV, and County Tax Offices, are total morons".  I have Titled a few Minis over the years down in Broward County, and it was a pleasant experience.

Rude awakening when I tried to Title a Jap Import Car in Volusia County at my local Tax Office, which is Daytona. Everything was in order, but the young male clerk hadn't a bloody clue, and his female supervisor was a close second. They wanted me to PROVE,in ENGLISH, continuity between original Owner, Car Dealership, Auction House, my Buyer, and me. WTF? Honest, you couldn't make this up. Try explaining to a dumb young guy who doesn't understand how the Motor Trade operates, that the Car had been Traded in to a Car Dealership, who then sent it to Auction, where it was bought on my behalf by my buyer, who then exported it to the USA, where I collected it. The Paper Trail was crystal clear.  Took the EXACT same Documents to Deland Tax Office and they Titled the car within 15 minutes. Hence my advice to Floridascot to go see the nice people in Deland Tax Office. Slainte.

.. Ok. the paperwork you will need.. is the Bill of Sale.. EPA form. 3501 , DOT form HS7.. Customs from 7501. the title or registration from Portugal..  your customs agents bill and proof of payment of duty.. and here in NC.. vin inspection..  Lic and theft  form 270. A title bond ( MVR 92 H) is required on the UK , AUS, and NZ titles.. as it says.  THIS IS NOT PROOF OF OWNERSHIP..   easy peacy.. later  bc  ps.. there is vin number stamped in bulkead.. above the carb..  should be 17 digits.. think it starts with TW7. as the WMI..

Welcome to Dumb & Dumber....otherwise known as Orlando DMV.  Had a similar experience recently with a Nissan Figaro.  DMV pass the buck by stating you must have a Notarised Translation of the Export Documents.
My advice is, take it to DMV in Orange City, for Vin Verification, then go direct from there to Deland Tax Office where common sense prevails.  Young guy I got in the Tax Office told me his friend had just imported a Pao, direct from Japan, so he was familiar with the routine. Walked out 15 minutes later with a clear Florida Title in my hand. Jim

Hi

We have recently imported a Mini Moke from Portugal to Kissimmee, Florida. It was registered in Portugal in 1985 and we had owned it in Portugal since 2006 .

However, we have run into issues in registering it with DMV in Florida.

does anyone have any advice or examples they can offer of successful registration of a Moke with Florida DMV ?

many thanks

Tom
