I certainly don't understand why anyone would go through a broker to buy a Mini in the United States. There are cars out there for sale and lots of folks sitting on cars that given the opportunity, would sell them. Why not do like ML does and run Craigslist ads all over the country saying you're interested in buying a classic Mini. State in your ad however, that you are a serious buyer with cash in hand. Explain that unlike some brokers who run ads wanting to buy Minis (who really have no intention of making a purchase), that you ARE the buyer! ML seems to get several people who commit their cars to him to sell. I guess it works for some and others it don't. Like someone said above, he asks for tons of photos and then keeps asking for more to the point of pissing folks off. I'm sure they expect him to actually buy their car but we all know that ain't his intent. I really don't care how he conducts his "service" but I personally don't think he gets you anything that you couldn't find and negotiate on your own. There is one thing that ML does that I think is not cool, is that he bids on every classic Mini that's on Bring A Trailer with no intention of buying. It's a joke watching one of their auctions wondering exactly when he will throw in one of his bids. Yeah, he always bids, but never enough to get close to winning. To me that's unethical. If you are interested in buying, start bidding with the hope of winning the auction. The person selling is trying to conduct business and if someone bids with no intention of buying, they are jerking the seller around. Take it seriously and don't screw around with someone who is trying to conduct a legitimate auction!

I sold my first MK1 through Michael Lewis, for much less than it was worth, but that was my fault. He can be a valuable source. . Just don't call him "Mike" or spell his last name "Louis"....he is overly touchy about that for a car dealer, in my opinion. I would never buy from BC though....just can't stand the guy's personality. There is a pretty good Innocente for sale by one of our club members... CA car, about 60s vintage. He may sell it with our without the motor....(around 10K w/ good 998 motor I believe). Solid car, but has faded paint and a dent or two. I think it is a very good value.

ML pretended to be a buyer of my car. Many e-mails, asking for many pictures, many questions, etc etc. Could never give me an offer for the car. Not one single offer. After a lot of wasted time and effort: "Have you seen my website?" Totally ridiculous.

I think although i like 998's it would be a stretch as most of America believes there is no substitute for cu in but who knows in the California market especially with a Mini that is already registered there.
If it is sound and rust free as most NZ Minis are i would check the underneath as there is what looks to be a lot of fresh thick in places undercoating present.

I don’t have that info yet.
Classic mini prices have went sky high lately thanks to very few popularizing the car on social media and Bring a trailer bringing in very nice hammer prices. Hard to find a sound rust free mini these days and I think that alone makes this 1972 between $15k to $20k easy. What do you guys think?

Hi Big Al,

Michael was able to help me sell my first mk1 Cooper and that went through smoothly without a problem. All paperwork for the car transport, til the day I got my money. Although it was a different story when it was my turn to buy. He wasn’t able to help me with this car that I wanted in his database but that’s just how business goes. I just want my friend to be taken care of that’s all if he decides to drive up there with cash to buy this 1972 Morris mini white with black roof. I know it’s a nice car and heard many people are interested. It would be very unpleasant if ML is a no show.

Filter out the "reviews" from his competitors and you might get a different viewpoint.

Whee, were you one of Michael Lewis’ clients? If so, did you buy a car from him or had him sell a car for you?

Looking for a friend here in San Diego. He’s retired and want to buy a classic mini under $20k

i told him with that budget he could find a good running car without rust. I’ve looked in the classifieds but nothing in there close by that is interesting. He wants a saloon that is already California titled as much as possible. Please message me at my email [email protected] or make a reply if you have something for us. Thank you.
