Your profile says you are in Belgium. If that is correct, Mini Spares has the replacement module for 36 GBP including VAT. They list the complete 59D 998 A+ electronic distributor for 63 GBP... however they show it is out of stock.
Your least expensive option is to continue running the points distributor. There is nothing wrong with running points. If you want electronic ignition and are not planning to use this dizzy in the future, why not just try replacing the module. It is your SECOND least expensive option.
That said, I remember from when I posted a lot on TMF that a common mistake people made when fitting the factory electronic distributor was fitting the "wrong coil". The factory electronic ignition requires an extra low resistance coil (GCL143 or DLB198). It is my understanding that fitting a "standard" coil can significantly shorten the life of the factory ignition module.

Doug, I am guessing it might be (or has to be) the control module on the outside. No start no spark. Have an old dizzy in atm that uses points (and I guess has to be a59D) that I borrowed from a friend and now at least she runs and starts.
Could I get away with a 59D electronic like our host (and their British suppliers) sell? I prefer just renewing the thing over throwing parts at it as I need the car for a holiday in a month or so...
Looked at the 123 already but the price tag is too steep for an engine that will get swapped out next year with something different anyway...

Rather than spilling money to buy a new distributor and then more for an electronic conversion, look into the 123 system. I installed mine in 2007 and haven't touched it since. https://www.minimania.com/Do_s_and_Dont_of_the_123_Distributor_for_the_Mini_Cooper

So my distributor kicked the bucket and I am looking for a replacement.
Now, I have an A plus engine, the car is from 1988, I suspect it still is the original engine.
An electronic distributor was already installed, but now I am wondering what the difference is between the 59 and the 69. Both seem like they would fit, so what is the difference? The engine is a 998, the 69D seems to be for the 1275?
No markings on the existing one sadly>
