I have never worked on a new MINI and have none to look at or compare.

Is it the increased length of the diecast end that is causing the problem?  If so, how about carefully using a small tubing cutter to cut through the diecast cylinder at the correct length, cutting down to the cable, then split off the extra material?

Obviously that won't explain why there is no record of a new vs. old cable but it might allow you to use a new cable for your car.

Today I went to the Mini Cooper dealership with both parts and they could not figure out why they don't match and where to get a new one that fits my car. They checked older models and the convertible in case the door was replaced in the past and still didn't find it.

Has any one else run into this issue?

Thanks in advance!
We have not heard of issues with the interior door handle cable...  It appears the cable we offer is the same as the 'new part' in your photo....

Hello,

I recently purchased a 2005 Cooper S and the driver's side door will not open with the interior handle. Thinking the cable might be stretched, I ordered a replacement (part # 51-21-7-143-538), but it does not match the cable I took out of my door.  I tried fitting it in anyway but it doesn't fit in my door's latch.  Searching around on the internet I have found people doing the repair with both the cable from my car and the new one that doesn't match but haven't been able to find an explanation. Today I went to the Mini Cooper dealership with both parts and they could not figure out why they don't match and where to get a new one that fits my car. They checked older models and the convertible in case the door was replaced in the past and still didn't find it.

Has any one else run into this issue?

Thanks in advance!
