'it it with a 'ammer. If you don't succeed, 'it it 'arder. If you still don't succeed, 'it it with a bigger 'ammer. If it breaks it weren't no good in the first bloody place.

Success! After heating and cooling, and more rust penetrating oil, they started to move when based on the floor caveman style. Then I could work them off prying with a large flat blade.. Knuckles knocked out with some friendly persuasion from a hammer and a long punch. Almost done rebuilding the upper arm, and everything else on the front end is new.. so once the frame is cleaned and painted, most of the painful work is done. Already finished the rear swing arms, disassembled, sandblasted, painted and then new bearings, shafts brake cylinder, shoes, springs and hoses..

Maybe heat up the Aluminum cone not too hot to disturb the rubber (if you plan on re using).
I think i have a pair of stock front cones if you need them.

Later ones are 14mm metric.. hard to tell on these ones as the threads are pretty rusted.. will have to clean them up and see what I can use as I have both sizes of threaded rod.. More banging today with no success getting the cones off, more penetrating fluid and another day to wait.. something has to give eventually

It depends on the year the newer ones are metric. i can't remember when they changed maybe 76 when the single bolt sub frames came about.

pretty sure the nut inside the cone is 1/2" fine thread. I envision a threaded tool to assist by pushing on the trumpet interior while you are outside prying on the trumpet lip.

I had one that was tight and removed the knuckle from the trumpet then supported the assembly and hit it inside with a piece of #/8" or !/2" round rod, just moving around the inside loosened it up the hardest part was keeping it supported in the vice.

Will let them soak for a few days, then try bashing as suggested..maybe some restrained banging at the edges to vibrate the penetrating fluid into the joint... every 5 minute job seems to take hours on an old Mini.. I guess that's why we love working on them.. not shortage of things to do!

I have a large vise and I catch the rubber spring in the vise one jaw inside one outside, tighten place a pipe over the trumpet and pull down. Vise is bolted to 400 lb welding bench. This has resulted in ripping the the lower cup out of the rubber. I have a pair of fronts HI-LOs stuck for a year or more. The plan is cut the sub frame so I can remove them then give them a try. I have a lot of trumpets in many different lengths. Steve (CTR)

I find a large tree is kinder to the cone if you want to use it again...
Don't forget plenty of coppaslip on re-assembly..
Cheers, Ian

Find area away from breakables.
FInd area with concrete or asphault ground
Grasp trumpet in hand firmly. Raise high above head.
Strike swiftly the cone down onto the ground 3 x.
Rotate trumpet
Repeat
Smash it on the ground a few times they usually come free.
Goodluck

Can you put them in the freezer and then in a large pot of boiling water?

Gave up after a few hours of prying, banging and other failed attempts at removing the rubber cones from the front trumpets.. I want to keep both of them, so don't want to cut anything off. Any suggestion on how to get them apart? they have been sprayed with penetrating oil and waiting for me to get back out and beat on them
