I have an article for converting the MINI Cooper Midlands 5-speed to a Cooper S 6-speed. Although this is not an automatic to manual swap - it may be useful in determining what to consider when swapping gearboxes..

Interested?

Yes, it can be done. It was quite a popular conversion for the cvt coopers that pooped the bed with regularity.

some of it is just mechanics You need the 6-speed flywheel and clutch, a shifter with cables that match the version of transmission you are installing (02-04 or 05-06 I think had 1 cable different, but I'm not 100%) transmission mount and axles/halfshafts to match the 6spd manual clutch pedal and slave cylinder.

The other thing you need is for someone to go into your computer (ecm) and tell it that you don't have an automatic transmission any more.

There was a good .pdf writeup but it doesn't seem to be active anymore. I actually have it saved on my computer if you can't find more recent info.

I have a 2006 mini cooper s that I am turning into a mini camino. I have removed half of the roof and filled in where the sunroof was with metal bracing and sheet metal. I then created a partition wall behind front seats with a window. what was the back seat and and storage space behind is now like a pickup. I added a tailgate from mini cooper convertible. all metal work is done.I would like to change the 6 speed automatic(aisin) transmission to a 6 speed manual transmission. I bought a 6 speed manual transmission and removed the automatic. I need technical help to see what and if this can be done. thanks mark.    I have finally removed automatic transmission and prepped engine for new flywheel, disc and pressure plate. rear main seal looks good no leaks. should get clutch kit this week. still need a few more parts!!
