From what I can tell from the video, it looked like a gen1 R50 MINI Cooper (or possibly a R52 Cooper convertible).

The rattle near the muffler sound like what it is - a rattle near the muffler.

I could not hear the engine so I can't comment on that.

Are there any check engine lights on the dash?

The reason why you think the repairs were not well done may provide a clue..??

To me it sounds like something terrible is happening the timing department.  But....... there's not much to go on.

Are the plug leads on the right way 'round?

What does whoever built the engine think?
